*General Description*

Working under the supervision of the Welding Supervisor, this position assists in the training of new and existing automated welding operators, programming of automated welders, and continuous improvement of automated welding technology and methods.

*Education, Certifications, Licenses, and/or Registrations *

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Welding certificate or minimum one (1) year production welding experience is required. Valid driver license is required.

*Experience*

Minimum one (1) year production automated welding experience is required. Automated welding programming is preferred. Forklift experience is preferred.

*Specialized Knowledge and Skills*
* Must possess strong technical knowledge and manual dexterity.
* Intermediate reading and math skills are required.
* Able to read dial calipers, combination square, tape measure, and blueprints.
* Able to use hand and power tools.
* Able to follow instructions and retain information.
* Knowledge of proper metal fabrication and welding techniques is required.
* Able to set up, program, and operate automated MIG welders.
* Computer proficient with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products.
* Working knowledge of office equipment including phones, computers, copiers, etc.
* Must have strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
* Must have clear communication skills and be able to reiterate information as necessary.

Essential Duties

1. Develop automated welding processes on parts.
* Work with Tool & Die Department to develop weld fixtures.
* Identify which machine(s) to utilize.
* Program and process creation
* Selection of weld parameters (wire, gas, wire speed, voltage, etc.).

2. Oversee automated software, programs, and computers that contain automated programs.
* Stay up to date and familiar with all setup and production procedures.
* Ensure periodic backups of programs.

3. Review automated welding work instructions for completeness and accuracy. If not complete and accurate, work with automated welding operators and forward changes or additions to Shop Floor Manager.

* How to run parts

4. Continually review existing automated welding methods and technology to assure part compliance, increased productivity, increased quality, and cost reductions.
* Cycle time improvement
* Program involvement
* Weld process improvement

5. Coach and assist operators on improved welding methods and cycle times.
* Efficient tacking, loading, and running procedures
* Assist with reaming, grinding, applying anti-spatter, etc.
* Perform all automated welding repair and rework.

6. Troubleshoot and resolve automated welding issues in an efficient and timely manner.
* Notify Tool & Die and Maintenance of needed repairs to fixtures.
* Notify Maintenance of needed repairs to automated equipment.
* Update Welding Supervisor and Production as needed.

7. Remain current on latest automated welding technologies.
* Research and suggest new welding capital equipment needs to Chief Engineer.

8. Submit Engineering Master change requests to Shop Floor Manager.
* PPH
* Convert an alternate routing to a standard routing

9. With the direction of the Welding Supervisor, appropriately train, instruct, and coach automated welding operators in job duties and safety procedures. Training to also include cross training of operators.
* Cross train departmental employees as needed by production demands.

10. Working with Welding Supervisor, evaluate automated welding operators.
* Give praise when appropriate.
* When performance issues persist beyond appropriate training and coaching, inform Welding Supervisor.

11. Implement quality improvement programs with the aid of the Welding Supervisor, Shop Floor Manager, Quality Control, and Engineering.

12. Run automated welders per work orders.
* Fill in as operator when the full-time operator is absent.
* Fill in as operator when the operator position is open.
* Meet and/or exceed production goals.

13. Follow all company and safety policies, guidelines, and rules.

14. Follow all quality standards.
* Work with Quality Control to ensure the quality of parts produced by automated welding machines. As necessary, assist Quality Control with inspections.
* Quality is the responsibility of everyone, not just Quality Control.

15. Work in a fast-paced environment.

16. Stay focused and on task with minimal supervision.

17. Maintain a clean and organized work area.

18. Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

19. Perform other duties as assigned.

*Work Environment *

Industrial manufacturing environment with loud noise level. Facility is enclosed, ventilated, and heated but not air conditioned. Safety-toe footwear, safety eyewear, and hearing protection required. Gloves or other PPE as needed.

*Physical Demands*

Spends more than three-quarters (3/4) of the time standing, kneeling/crouching/stooping, using hands, and reaching. Able to lift up to 75 lbs. and occasionally position heavier material with the aid of a lifting device(s). Generally requires clear vision at close distances for reading blueprints, instructions, and precision measuring instruments.

*Schedule*

Full time.

First shift: 5:30 AM – 3:45 PM, Monday through Thursday.

Second shift: 3:45 PM - 2:00 AM, Monday through Thursday.

Overtime may be required.

*Travel *

Some travel may be required for training.
