Chemistry Instructor (Full‑Time, Tenure‑Track) San Francisco Community College District Position Number: AC00216P Job Close Date: 3/3/2026 Campus: Ocean Campus Salary (Applicant View): Initial salary placement is based on verified and accepted educational/work experience in accordance with the current City College of San Francisco Faculty Salary Schedule. The annual salary range upon entry is from $75,466 to $115,214 for 175 days of service or pro‑rated for one semester or fewer days of service. New full‑time faculty hires will have two additional service days, in their first year of service only, for the purpose of attending mandatory new faculty orientation. They will receive "independent flex credit" for such attendance, but no additional pay. Contract: FIRST YEAR (PROBATIONARY) TENURE-TRACK (ONE POSITION) (BASED ON AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS) EC §§87602-87615 as amended by SB2298 (1990) Position Description: CCSF serves a remarkably diverse student population and welcomes individuals who are planning to transfer to university, training to enter the job market, or satisfying their curiosity by acquiring new knowledge and skills. The Chemistry Department is currently looking for faculty to fill a full‑time, tenure‑track position. We need faculty who can provide instruction in a wide range of chemistry‑related topics. We serve students who intend to major in such diverse fields as biochemistry/biotechnology, engineering, medicine & health sciences, biology, and physics. Job Duties: Teach in‑person lecture and laboratory sections of lower‑division, university‑parallel chemistry courses, which may include general chemistry, organic chemistry, and instrumental analysis. Teach in‑person lecture and laboratory sections of preparatory courses offered by the Chemistry Department, including chemistry for allied‑health careers. Teach daytime, in‑person sections at the Ocean Campus, or possibly in the future, at our other Centers. Provide instruction in accordance with the Chemistry Department's established course outlines and the College Catalog. Perform duties associated with instructing students, assessing their progress in relation to identified student learning outcomes, and maintaining thorough course records. Participate in departmental and college‑wide functions, such as assessment of student learning outcomes, professional development activities, and committee work. Support and engage in culturally responsive, inclusive, and anti‑racist practices as they relate to student success, with an awareness of student equity gaps. Participate in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti‑racism to center pedagogy. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor. Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Earned Master's Degree or higher in Chemistry from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT; Earned Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry from an accredited institution AND earned Master's Degree or higher in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Physics, Physics, Molecular Biology, or Geochemistry from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT; Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Instructor Credential in Chemistry (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990). Desirable Qualifications: At least two years of college‑level teaching experience in Chemistry. Strong academic record, including coursework that provides in‑depth coverage of inorganic, organic, physical, and analytical chemistry; biochemistry; and lower‑division coursework in physics and mathematics. Demonstrated knowledge of the areas of chemistry listed above at a level sufficient to teach the entire range of courses offered by the CCSF Chemistry Department. Demonstrated experience in bringing to completion the development of chemistry courses or programs at the postsecondary level. Demonstrated ability to teach students with widely varying abilities and levels of preparation. Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials that may be used in chemistry lectures or laboratories. Demonstrated experience working in a team environment to complete department projects, such as writing grant proposals. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly in spoken and written English. Notable demonstrated experience with computer resources and applications that are relevant to chemical instruction, including web‑based resources. Demonstrated experience in the development and review of curricula and assessment of learning. Evidence of instructional experience at the university or college level using culturally responsive pedagogy. Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education and a commitment to rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students.
