The City of Kettering’s Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department is seeking an exceptional professional to fill the Regular Full-Time position of Aquatics Supervisor.
As part of the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts team, this supervisory position is responsible for overseeing aquatic staff and programs. Assists with daily operations of the Kettering Recreation Complex main pool, spa, and Adventure Reef Water Park under the general direction of the Aquatics Manager.
Work involves supervising all aspects of the Aquatics Team and planning, coordinating, and
implementing programs in the Aquatic area. Supervises part-time, contractual employees and instructors in the Aquatic area. Exercises initiative and professional judgment in the performance of duties.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)
• Recruits, interviews, hires, orients, evaluates and supervises staff in the Aquatic area;
• Plans, organizes and conducts orientation and in-service training for Aquatic staff;
• Maintain complete and accurate personnel and program records;
• Develops and maintains staff incentive/recognition program to increase staff retention;
• Assists in preventative maintenance schedules for equipment at the aquatic facilities, and
helps with inventory of equipment and other supplies;
• Plans and works with the depa1tment's Communications/Marketing Supervisor to
implement timely promotional materials for community aquatic programs;
• Assists the Aquatic Manager in development and maintenance of the Aquatic budget;
• Assists with the implementation of department mission, vision and goals;
• Coordinate aquatic activities, evaluate usage of facilities, and administer programs in
accordance with citizen's needs;
• Demonstrates versatility by assisting with projects and tasks that may be outside of the
realm of the Aquatic cost center;
• Regular and predictable on-site attendance required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must have basic knowledge of the objectives and principles of public recreation, including an
understanding of activities that comprise a community recreation program. Experience in aquatic lessons and program planning. Knowledge of proper water chemical balance and equipment needed in managing an Aquatic area and Water Park. Ability to maintain records, assimilate information, create reports and present ideas and recommendations clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Supervisory skills necessary to develop staff and volunteers. Experience in computer applications is required. Must be able to adapt to a varied work schedule involving long hours, nights, weekends and holidays as necessary to assure successful operation of the Recreation Division. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city staff members, volunteers, community
organizations and the general public.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
A degree in Parks and Recreation or a related field, and at least two (2) years of progressively responsible experience; or any combination of training, education, or experience which provides the abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Certification as a Pool & Spa Operator and/or Aquatic Facility Operator is required. Water Safety and/or Lifeguard Training Instructor certification preferred. If not currently certified, certification will be required soon after appointment. NRPA CPRP is desirable. Good organizational and staff supervisory skills are required, as well as the ability to work effectively with all employees, city officials, and the general public.
