The Scientist I, Neuroscience is responsible for planning and performing scientific experiments that contribute to PTC’s research and drug discovery activities. The incumbent works cross-functionally with internal departments, and external resources as appropriate, as part of PTC’s discovery science project teams. The Scientist I, Neuroscience supports adherence to relevant regulatory requirements and company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as appropriate. Primary Duties and Responsibilities With guidance from the advisor, plan, initiate, direct, and execute scientific research and experiments, and interpret and communicate results as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This includes performing analyses of primary research literature. Present findings internally to cross‑functional teams. May provide scientific advice to research leadership on projects and areas of expertise. Abide by all safety and regulatory guidelines. Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook. Perform other tasks as assigned. Interview and contribute to the evaluation of candidates. May participate in the development and writing of patent applications. Contribute to general lab needs such as equipment maintenance, capital equipment purchases, and troubleshooting. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Experience working with and/or establishing differentiated induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) is required. Excellent sterile technique and ability to establish and maintain various cell culture systems including primary and immortalized cell systems. Working knowledge of molecular biology (e.g., RT‑PCR, qPCR, RNA‑seq) and gene editing techniques. Experience in protein quantification and analysis methods such as Western blot, ELISA, and MSD. Strong desire to work in a dynamic environment where innovation and initiative are expected. Minimum level of education and years of relevant work experience: Ph.D. in a scientific discipline preferably in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry with 1–2 years post‑doctoral or industry experience. Special knowledge, skills, licenses, or certificates as required or preferred. Exercises independent judgement within defined procedures and practices. Demonstrates technical proficiency and collaboration within a fast‑paced, matrixed team environment consisting of internal and external members. Possesses detailed and expert knowledge of scientific principles and concepts. Demonstrates ability to work effectively in a multi‑disciplinary team environment. Ability to work independently and collaboratively on complex problems producing experimental data across projects. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (preferably MS Excel and MS PowerPoint) and familiarity with basic statistical analytical methods. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Analytical thinker with excellent problem‑solving skills. Demonstrates understanding of strategic alignment of work with corporate goals and ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines. Excellent planning, organization, and time‑management skills including ability to support and prioritize multiple projects. Experience designing and conducting cell‑based studies of compound activity and mechanism of action studies. Travel requirements: Up to 10%. Office/Laboratory based position. Expected Base Salary Range: $111,400 – $140,300. The base salary offered will be contingent on assessment of candidate education level, background, and experience relative to the requirements of the position they are being considered for, as well as review of internal equity. In addition to base salary, PTC employees are also eligible for short‑ and long‑term incentives. All eligible employees may also enroll in PTC’s medical, dental, vision, and retirement savings plans.
