Assistant Store Manager F/T at Goodwill of Southern New England Hourly Pay: $20.50 (Range: $19.56 – $25.33) Benefits Tuition and gym reimbursement Emergency assistance funds Paid time off Referral bonuses Retirement plan contributions Other benefits depending on position Summary Under general supervision of the Store or Outlet Manager, the Assistant Store Manager assists in overall store operations including collections, processing, sales, financial performance, loss control activities, and personnel management. The role includes supervising store associates and shift supervisors as assigned, managing community service workers and supported employment work crews, and ensuring smooth daily operations. Special Requirements Must typically work regular weekends (Saturday/Sunday), evenings, and holidays customary to the retail trade. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Store Operation Oversee handling and processing of incoming/outgoing materials: donations, merchandise from donation centers, processed goods, salvage goods, and waste. Maximize used goods processing and sales performance through proper sorting, pricing, rotation, display, signage, promotions and inventory. Ensure quality customer service and telephone relations. Manage supported employment work crews and community service workers. Maintain appearance of sales floor, processing area, exterior, parking lot, and equipment. Periodically inventory selected areas. Financial Assist in managing store budget, payroll, processing goals, revenue generation, and expense control. Ensure proper cash management, daily cash report approval, and bank deposits. Safety, Security and Loss Prevention Maintain safe, clean premises and enforce safety/hazard procedures. Ensure proper use of staging areas, secure equipment, protective gloves, ice melt, and submit work orders for maintenance. Conduct daily store opening/closing, security system checks, incident reporting, and quarterly fire drills. Handle shipping and handling of donated products per protocol. Supervisory Responsibilities Assist in interviewing, hiring, training, and directing store personnel. Plan and direct work for employees, volunteers, and work crews as required. Schedule employees to meet coverage needs for production, customer service, safety, and security. Ensure adherence to policies, CARF standards, and safety regulations. Complete store reports accurately and timely. Other Duties Execute bank transactions and maintain transportation to banks. Respond to alarms as part of the Alarm Responder Roster; maintain phone service for notifications. Perform related duties as directed. Qualifications Education and Experience High school diploma or GED plus minimum two years related supervisory experience, or equivalent training/education. Must be 18 years or older. Language Skills Read, interpret and write reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before customers and employees. Mathematical Skills Calculate discounts, commissions, percentages, and other figures. Reasoning Ability Apply common sense in written, oral, or diagram instructions. Resolve problems involving multiple variables. Other Skills and Abilities Bookkeeping and accounting principles; basic Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook). Recognition of value in brand name apparel and merchandise. High integrity and business ethics. Physical Demands Stand, walk, talk; handle, reach, lift up to 25 pounds (occasionally 100 pounds), push crates up to 600 pounds. Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed. Use hand trucks for heavy items. Frequent lifting of donations and large items. Vision: near, distance, and color vision necessary. Protective Equipment Wear protective eyewear and gloves when cleaning or handling chemicals. Use protective gloves when sorting credentials. Work Environment Fast-paced, deadlines, production quotas, occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, chemicals, weather. Optional temporary transfer to other locations. Noise moderate.
