Terms and Conditions apply Overview The Clinical Pharmacist ensures the overall integrity, safety, rationality, and effectiveness of the drug use control process for all patients in the assigned geographic or specialty area, including the following patient groups: Neonates, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics. Licensure & Certification Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy required or obtained within the first 90 days of employment. Licensed as a Pharmacist with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy during continued employment. Experience Minimum of one (1) year of pharmacy practice experience in a similar setting or residency training. Previous experience with state-of-the-art drug distribution and clinical service methods. Education Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited academic program (required). Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited academic program (required). PGY1, ASHP-accredited residency (preferred). PGY2, ASHP-accredited residency (preferred). Responsibilities Monitoring, screening, and verification of all drug-related orders for proper dosage, route, dosage form, and administration schedule. Ensuring expedited preparation and dispensing of all dosage forms by pharmacy personnel. Resolving drug therapy problems, clarifying, and correcting problematic drug orders. Designating pharmacy technicians to perform special assignments. Evaluating employees’ and students’ performance. Counseling patients regarding the safe and proper use of their medications. Resolving equipment and operational problems. Interacting with other health care practitioners in a multidisciplinary environment. Monitoring the effects of medications and recommending and/or initiating appropriate adjustments to achieve desired medication-related outcomes. Supervising the actions of Pharmacy Interns and Certified Pharmacy Technicians as set forth in the Pharmacy Act and the Drug Control Act. Supervising the actions of pharmacy residents as set forth in Department of Pharmacy Services. Additional Requirements Must be available to work evenings, nights, and weekends. Age Specific groups served: All. Physical Requirements Physical: Lifting 20-50 lbs. Activities: Prolonged standing, Prolonged sitting, Frequent bending, Walking (distance), Climbing (steps, ladder, other), Reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive), Repetitive motion. Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, Reasoning, Problem solving, Hearing, Speak clearly, Write legibly, Reading, Logical thinking.
