Job Description The Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks applications from talented candidates for one tenure‑track Assistant Professor position to start in September 2026. The primary research interests for candidates are those who specialize in either behavioral finance or archival audit; however, candidates in other areas of accounting research are welcome to apply. Those who complement our current faculty research portfolio will be considered. Under exceptional circumstances, highly qualified candidates at other ranks may receive consideration. Requirements Candidates must have or expect to complete a Ph.D. in Accounting by September 2026. Candidates must have expertise or evident potential in providing high‑quality teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, across face‑to‑face and online instructional modalities. Further, candidates should show evidence of, or potential for, publishing in top research journals. Additional Information The Accounting Department is known internationally as one of the world's thought leaders in financial statement auditing. It is perennially ranked among the world's top universities for auditing research (BYU faculty rankings). It is also one of only four permanent hosts of the International Symposium on Audit Research (ISAR), hosting the symposium every four years. Faculty are active in the academy as editors of some of the world's leading auditing and accounting research journals. They have been recognized for their work and involvement with the accounting profession, in roles such as PCAOB Economic Fellows, KPMG Faculty Fellows, and leadership positions in the American Accounting Association (AAA) and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). The Accounting Department maintains separate AACSB accounting accreditation for all its educational programs. It has thriving bachelor's and master's programs. US News & World Report ranked Isenberg School of Management #2 Public University in the Northeast, and the Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) was ranked #3 for Best Online Master's Degrees by US News in 2025. Isenberg is a primary recruiting target for the most prominent accounting firms. In addition, the department has a well‑established doctoral program in accounting. The Isenberg School of Management is AACSB‑accredited, with nationally recognized undergraduate, MBA programs, and Ph.D. programs in each of our major disciplines, and a strong research culture. Amherst has been heralded by US News & World Report and MSN.com as one of the best college towns in America. Salary Information Salary range $79,350 to $245,000. The low‑end of the pay range in all faculty searches at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is the minimum salary for the rank included in the collective bargaining agreement between the University and the Massachusetts Society of Professors, UMass Amherst/MTA/NEA.
