If you possess the academic credentials, strong analytical skills and legal acumen needed for successful litigation work, our team may be the place for youKey ResponsibilitiesDemonstrates trial advocacy skills independently as lead counsel or as part of a team, with efficiency, proactive case management, work ethic, and work product quality to handle all matters in accordance with NTD standard methodology guidelines and client expectations.Requires minimal managerial oversight and guidance from the Managing Trial Attorney and NTD Leadership in all aspects of core duties.Adept at effectively utilizing technology and working with support staff to ensure efficient case management.Demonstrates consistent awareness of changes to the law, technology, local rules and other procedural requirements that impact litigation strategies.Possesses subject matter expertise and trial advocacy skills required for all NTD concentrations held, with willingness to develop additional concentrations as needed.Provides factually, legally and analytically sound opinions on case valuations, promptly updated and communicated to client and claims.Independently establishes and maintains strong professional relationships with key associates within Office of the Chief Legal Officer and claims partners, and with colleagues in the legal and insurance industries within the jurisdictions practiced.Utilizes relationships to build and improve NTD’s reputation and expand case referral opportunities within the enterprise.Communicates effectively, consistently and proactively identifying, understanding, and meeting client, claims, and internal NTD communication expectations.Serves as a mentor for junior attorneys and NTD staff, providing guidance and training, and serving as a role model in engagement, coaching, feedback, efficiency, attitude, and collaboration.Reporting RelationshipsReports to Managing Trial Attorney.Typical Skills and ExperiencesEducation: Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.License/Certification/Designation: Maintains an active license in the state in which the position is located.Experience: More than eight years of relevant civil litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation.Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Significant litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation, complex legal practices and procedures throughout all courts and agencies in the assigned jurisdiction, excellent written and verbal communication, collaboration, negotiation, analytical and legal skills, computer savvy, time management, decision making, and leadership skills.Other CriteriaStaffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resources Business Partner.ValuesRegularly and consistently demonstrates the Nationwide values.Job ConditionsOvertime EligibilityNot Eligible (Exempt).Working ConditionsGenerally a normal office environment with hybrid work flexibility, frequent travel, occasional overnight travel, and extended hours to meet professional demands.
