POSITION TITLE: Program Director of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Track

DIVISION: Division of Nursing

POSITION STATUS: Full Time, 10-Month (administrative and teaching responsibilities)

POSITION REPORTS TO: Graduate Nursing Program Director

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Graduate Nursing Program Director, the Director of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Track is responsible for the management of the BSN-DNP and post-graduate certificate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specialty track in the areas of leadership, governance, didactic and clinical curriculum, faculty, students, program evaluation, community relations, and Franciscan Values. Serving University of Saint Francis (USF) students and the USF community is paramount. To provide a consistent quality experience across the university, the USF Way, outlined in the Employee Handbook, is used to describe service expectations for all employees. This is a full-time, 10-month, non-tenured faculty position.

Must demonstrate willingness and ability to support and actively contribute to the Catholic and Franciscan mission and values of the university.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:

Leadership of the Program

Provides effective leadership in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.

* Oversees accuracy and submission to the Graduate Nursing Program Director of the course schedule of classes and syllabi of classes taught consistent with USF guidelines, content map, and catalog description.
* Coordinates USF graduate catalogue and marketing materials for the program track
* Effectively communicates programmatic issues to the Graduate Nursing Program Director
* Guides curriculum review and ongoing development

Provides leadership and collaboration in the development and implementation of division mission and vision for programmatic and division improvement.

* Leads annual program track action planning within the context of division strategic plan.
* Analyzes program assessment data for programmatic and division improvement.
* Provides leadership in maintaining programmatic accreditation standards.
* Leads accreditation planning, preparation, and evaluation activities.
* Facilitates assessment of student academic achievement and other areas of instructional effectiveness

Provides effective leadership for the division and faculty by:

* Effectively managing the ongoing operational, financial and personnel activities of the program track
* Providing input to the Graduate Nursing Program Director regarding program budget needs
* Establishing and maintaining contractual agreements with other agencies and institutions
* Making recommendations to the Graduate Nursing Program Director regarding the appointment, promotion, retention, and dismissal of full-time, part-time, and adjunct faculty in the program
* Encouraging communication and collaboration among faculty
* Assessing nursing faculty effectiveness in classroom and clinical teaching (via observation and/or student evaluations)
* Assisting faculty in improving teaching practices
* Mentoring and supporting faculty in the teaching role, professional development, and scholarly activities
* Evaluating faculty
* Collaborating with Graduate Clinical Coordinator in planning adjunct orientation, ongoing development, evaluation
* Recognizing individual strengths and interests to make appropriate teaching assignments.
* Overseeing the submission of an accurate course schedule of classes
* Coordinating revisions for the USF undergraduate and graduate catalogues, student handbooks and marketing materials for the program track
* Leading faculty in adapting to changes in program, division, college, and university.
* Initiating strategies to promote effective division teamwork and positive morale.
* Developing, administering, and maintaining programmatic records, policies, and procedures; participates in the policy-making process relative to general University policies, as appropriate.

Leadership of Students and Alumni

* Works effectively with students and faculty to resolve student issues and concerns.
* Provides effective leadership in oversight of student recruitment and retention responsibilities.
* Leads new student registration and recruitment activities.
* Leads efforts to plan, implement and evaluate marketing of program track.
* Assures effective advising of program track majors.
* Writes professional letters of reference for students and alumni.
* Recommends students for scholarships and awards.

Leadership within the College of Health Sciences

* Exhibits strong team skills to accomplish the College Mission and Vision
* Participates in strategic planning within the College of Health Sciences and the University
* Makes recommendations to Graduate Nursing Program Director regarding Division Strategic Plan, Budget, Evaluation, Annual Action Plan, Committee structure, curriculum, faculty, students, quality standards, and community relations.

Communication

* Facilitates communication within the division, with other programs within the College of Health Sciences, with other Colleges at the University, and with administration.
* Serves as an advocate for program faculty.
* Clearly communicates program clerical needs to staff.
* Manages conflicts and addresses program issues in a timely manner.
* Establishes and maintains effective communication with all communities of interest.

Teaching

* Engages in teaching and clinical practice according to expertise and programmatic needs.
* Assists with student advising for DNP projects.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Faculty Responsibilities/Activities

* Fulfills full-time contracted teaching load as defined by the faculty handbook.
* Engages in Scholarship as defined by the Boyer Model, including, but not limited to activities identified in the faculty handbook.
* Adheres to all university academic and employment policies identified in the Employee and Faculty handbooks, USF Policy Library, and academic catalogs.
* Participates in recruitment, retention, development, and alumni engagement efforts in coordination with division members, Alumni and Enrollment Services, and/or Donor Relations
* Participates in assessment of curriculum in coordination with the Director of Assessment and Accreditation
* Attends program, division, college, and university meetings as requested.
* Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Director, Division Director, and/or college Dean.
* Respects the moral and religious beliefs of the university and students; uses discretion when expressing personal beliefs and views. Faculty are entitled to freedom in the classroom. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

* Doctorate (Ph.D., DNP) from an accredited institution required.
* Graduate preparation in the basic and clinical sciences relevant to Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner practice required.
* Formal instruction in curriculum, evaluation, and instruction required.

Licensure/Certification

* Current Indiana RN/APRN license or privilege to practice (or eligibility for license) required.
* Current Certification or Recertification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Experience

* Minimum of three to five years of clinical experience as a nurse practitioner required.
* Experience as an administrator, clinical coordinator, or faculty in a nurse practitioner program required.
* Knowledge of the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education policies and procedures

Knowledge and Skills

* Competence in educational principles and techniques used in higher education classrooms, laboratory, and clinical settings.
* Knowledge of the profession including theory, practice issues, procedures, and regulations
* Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community.
* Skill in goal setting, budget management, and team building
* Analytical and organizational skills to plan, implement, and evaluate program activities.
