Outdoor Education and Summer Camp Executive Position Overview The Outdoor School is hiring for the newly-created Full-Time Program Director position to oversee training and implementation of outdoor and experiential education programs through our well-established curriculum. Each fall and spring TOS hosts adventure-based learning field trips working with public, private, charter, Montessori and parochial schools in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. The Program Director will be a critical part of our Outdoor Education Leadership Team supervising seasonal staff, serving as a Director on Duty in rotation with other staff, and reviewing program schedules to ensure efficiency, effectiveness and successful delivery of the educational modules selected by each school group. The ideal candidate has excellent communication and customer service skills, is highly organized, and is a team player. The applicant should have at least 1-2 seasons working in environmental or outdoor education and have held a leadership position in a summer camp or similar recreation setting focused on positive youth development. Responsibilities Supervising the training of all outdoor education classes to ensure seasonal instructors are prepared and competent to teach modules to student participants. Managing the class supplies and inventories necessary for program delivery and communicating with the Executive Director all supply needs in a timely manner. Performing an annual audit of outdoor education classes to quantify classes chosen frequently versus infrequently, popularity with participants after delivery and alignment with Texas Education Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) curriculum standards to keep class offerings relevant and current. Checking weekly schedules while in season (Sept-Nov, March-May) created by seasonal Program Coordinators for accuracy, ideal program design and appropriate assignments to seasonal staff based on training and skill level. Serving as Director on Duty (DOD) on a rotating schedule with other Program Coordinators and Full-Time Staff. Leading Chaperone Orientation and Closures on a rotating schedule with other Program Coordinators and Full-Time Staff, including communicating all safety expectations to adult chaperones upon arrival at TOS. Collaborate with Full-Time Staff to align educational initiatives with institutional goals. Work collaboratively with other Program Coordinators and Full-Time Staff to support the overall operations of The Outdoor School and Champions Retreat for the spring and fall seasons. Limited crossover responsibilities with Camp Champions during the summer. Other duties as assigned. Essential Functions Physical strength to lift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Ability to communicate (and follow) safety regulations and emergency procedures. Ability to provide necessary instruction to students, chaperones, and staff. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. 1-2 Seasons in Outdoor Education preferred. Prior experience in a summer camp or recreation setting in a leadership role preferred. Prior experience in customer service required. Constant concern for safety and participants’ welfare. The Program Director is required to live on the Camp Champions property. Camp Champions is a rural summer camp/retreat property located in Marble Falls, TX. This is a full‑time, year-round position including salary commensurate with experience, housing, and benefits. General Roles The Program Director is responsible to the camp owner and TOS Executive Director. All staff members are expected to abide by all policies and procedures with a positive attitude and to assist in enforcing company policies. It is the staff’s responsibility to provide a positive learning environment. Illegal drugs and weapons are strictly forbidden on camp property. Appropriate dress code is required when working. All rules, regulations, policies, and procedures are outlined in the TOS and Camp Champions staff handbooks.
