Job Duties

HWDMC is a 94-bed medical facility that provides acute medical diagnosis, skilled, intermediate and long-term care to individuals receiving services in facilities operated by the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, as well as individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities within the community. We have been awarded the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) 5-Star Rating. We are dedicated to providing outstanding treatment and improving our patient’s and resident’s health and quality of life. This commitment means that we strive to be a leader in medically complex care and to ensure our team is comprised of well-trained and patient-centered staff and providers.

Registered Nurses (RN’s) provide age-specific quality nursing care to all patients through the nursing process and standards of nursing practice. RN’s plan, organize, coordinate, implement and evaluate nursing care daily; as well as supervise, document and provide guidance in performance of staff.

These positions are hourly/wage and not eligible for benefits. Hourly (wage) employees may not work more than 29 hours a week and are limited to working 1500 hours in a year. Eligible for shift differential.

Minimum Qualifications

Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia is required

Knowledgeable of professional nursing principles and practices; medication indications, actions, reactions and interactions and infection control.

Be considerable skilled in application of professional nursing techniques and devices used in a wide range of procedures.

Ability to work at least 20 - 29 hours per week. 

Additional Considerations

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is preferred.

Night and weekend shift availability is preferred. 

Demonstrate ability to apply the principles, practices and procedures of professional nursing, to recognize potential patient problems, to make nursing assessments, to observe, record and evaluate patients’ response to treatment, to communicate effectively with others orally and in writing.
