Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Cook39;s Helper. In this role, the successful candidate assists the Chef in preparation, seasoning, cooking and plating of food served to patients, employees, cafeteria and catered events, using standardized recipes. Job Responsibilities Reviews menus and work orders to determine type and quantities of food to be prepared for patients, cafeteria and catered functions. Other duties assigned by management and/or deemed past practice. Accepts directives from supervisor willingly. Customer service: respectful, flexible, knowledgeable, confident, professional, pleasant, patient, and helpful. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, QI Program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Fills appropriate production sheets. Follows HACCP methods for storing, cooking, preparing and cooling potentially hazardous foods. Includes filling out appropriate temperature logs. Maintains strict sanitary standards, according to departmental policy and procedures (e.g., handling food appropriately, maintaining temperatures), and cleans work stations. Assists in plating and lidding portioned foods. Cooks products according to standardized recipes, controls oven temperature to produce desirable results. Carves portions of meat, fish or fowl for individual servings. Adjusts heat control and timers on stoves, ovens, steam kettles and grills according to instructions. Bakes, roasts, broils and steams meat, fish, vegetables and other foods. Uses a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment such as mixers, grinders, etc., appropriately and safely. Washes, trims, seasons, cooks, measures and mixes food according to recipes and production manager's instructions. Procures food from refrigerator, freezer or other storage areas. Trims/cuts meat or fowl using knives. Confers with production manager/executive chef regarding modified diet prep and use of leftovers. Plans cooking schedules in order for food to be ready at specified times. Minimum Qualifications To qualify you must have a high school graduate or equivalent from a formal technical school specializing in hotel or institutional cooking. 3+ years experience. Ability to read and write fluent English. Ability to follow oral and written directions. ServSafe certification preferred. NY State Food Protection license preferred. Preferred Licenses: ServSafe Certification Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
