Position Summary

The Clinic RN provides nursing services to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric clients with mental illness, chemical dependency, and dual diagnosis or mental illness with developmental disabilities. Responds to physicians' orders, dispenses or administers prescribed medications, and monitors for symptoms and side effects.

This position will float to all of medical offices.

Essential Functions

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Performs assessment of the client in a systematic, organized manner, according to Family Health Center policy.
  • Develops and reviews client's individual treatment plans with client and family as indicated, utilizing patient centered treatment plan approach; completed and signed by client and physician within policy guidelines
  • Provides nursing care and responds to physicians' orders, dispenses, or administers prescribed medications following standard nursing practice and Samaritan Center policy.
  • Completes all documentation and required paperwork in EMR according to Family Health Center policy.
  • Reaches productivity standards set, completing and submitting billing for all services within policy guidelines.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Experience

Experience in psychiatric nursing desired. Must have demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individual clients and diagnoses. Must be familiar with DSM IV as well as psychotropic medications/side effects, etc. Must have skill and knowledge of age specific issues relating to specific clinical areas in which clients are served. Knowledge can be obtained through work experience, formal education, workshop attendance, literature reviews.

Mental: Demonstrates knowledge of the physical and psychosocial needs of the psychiatric population. Must exhibit communication skills, and ability to work with psychiatrists as well as other members of the multi-disciplinary treatment team. Ability to interpret written and verbal orders by the psychiatrists.

Physical: Occasionally lifts, pushes, and transfers patients. Lifts supplies and large equipment. Manual dexterity and mobility. Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Visual acuity for reading thermometers and equipment and for recording in the electronic medical record. Must be able to hear sufficiently to perform routine physical examinations. Must have the capability to drive.

Skills & Abilities: Must be able to communicate effectively. Must have the ability to use patient care equipment. Must have ability to work with computers and be familiar with EMR documenting and learning the Family Health Center EMR. The outpatient nurse must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide the appropriate treatment, care, and services for the clients they will serve.

Education

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Must obtain and maintain licensure through Indiana Health Professions Bureau. CPR certification. Demonstrates knowledge in ROM, nutritional needs, behavior modification, psychotropic medications, and assessment skills pertaining to the psychiatric population.

Pay Range: $25 per hour
