This role requires collaboration across various teams, including Hardware, Software, Firmware, Quality, and Customer Success, as well as with suppliers and customers. Your expertise in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and failure analysis will drive continuous improvement and innovation in our Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), contributing to the global transition to renewable energy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive RCA Processes: Utilize advanced RCA methodologies and tools, such as FMEA, 5 Whys, Ishikawa Diagrams, and FRACAS, to diagnose field, design, and manufacturing failures.

  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of findings and ensure timely communication of updates to stakeholders. Prepare clear and actionable reports for both internal and external audiences.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to recommend design or quality changes that prevent future occurrences and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Mentor junior colleagues and contribute to cross-functional training programs, promoting knowledge exchange on RCA tools and solutions.
  • Sustainability Impact: Drive initiatives that enhance the sustainability and long- term performance of Powin’s energy storage solutions, contributing to global carbon reduction efforts.
  • Standards Compliance: Ensure compliance with industry standards such as UL 9540, NFPA 855, and IEC 62619, and integrate these standards into failure analysis practices.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in a culture of continuous improvement by integrating lessons learned from failure analysis into future designs and processes.
  • Field Support: Travel as required to gather firsthand knowledge of field issues and collaborate on resolutions with teams on-site.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned to support the ongoing success of Powin’s products and mission.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Fire Prevention, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience. Advanced degrees or certifications in related fields are a plus.
  • Professional Experience: 5-7 years of experience in failure analysis, fire cause investigation, battery cell failure analysis, or a similar field. Experience with BESS technology and renewable energy systems is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with or training in HAZWOPER is preferred. Proficiency in programming languages (Java, C++, Python, SQL, LabVIEW, MATLAB) is a plus.
  • Test Design Experience: Reliability-based HALT or validation-based testing. Experience with CT-scan and SEM is highly desirable.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage projects within budget and timeline constraints, and to work flexibly in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Cultural Fit: Enthusiasm for working in a collaborative, diverse, and inclusive team environment. Flexibility in working hours to support global teams is essential.
  • Physical Demands and Work Environment: Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and comply with safety protocols. Frequently required to stand, walk, balance, and occasionally kneel or crouch. Ability to move through job sites with minor obstacles (inclines, uneven terrain) and occasionally work from ladders. Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Capable of monitoring and managing work in varying weather conditions.
