Founded in 1999, 3North is a 40-person, award-winning design firm with offices in Richmond, Virginia, and San Francisco, California. We are currently seeking a talented landscape designer to join our Richmond-based Residential Studio. This is an opportunity to become part of a collaborative and growing team shaping some of the region’s most significant private residential commissions. Within a broad range of project types, luxury residential commissions have consistently been at the heart of 3North’s practice. Whether large scale estate planning or sensitive historic additions, 3North’s award‑winning work has consistently brought nuanced design thinking across a broad range of stylistic vocabularies. Within that spectrum, 3North’s work goes a step beyond multidisciplinary to pursue a truly unified design practice – one in which landscape architecture, architecture and interior design are considered holistically and executed in a seamless manner. The ideal candidate will bring strong design sensibility and a minimum of three years of experience, contributing to all phases of project development—from site research and conceptual design through construction documentation and administration. Additional requirements are as follows: RESPONSIBILITIES Participate in collaborative project teams with a focus on co‑creation Plan, organize, and be responsible for your own work within your project team Execute a broad scope of tasks from small projects to large assignments Assist more experienced designers, as well as provide direction to interns, technical drafters, and administrative staff Landscape drawing production and organization (conceptual through technical) Tackle unusual design and technical challenges within large projects Work collaboratively across multiple design disciplines QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited College or University 3 years minimum of related residential landscape design experience at a landscape architecture or other design firm Proactively tracking toward licensure if not licensed Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), and MS Office Excellent organization and time management skills Regional plant knowledge and understanding of horticultural best practices Expertise in written, oral and graphic communication Expertise in reading, analyzing and interpreting professional literature, technical procedures and governmental regulations Ability to collaboratively work across multiple design disciplines Please include a cover letter, resume, and work samples demonstrating a wide range of skills in a single PDF document not to exceed 5Mb in size.
