Summary
The Manager of Cross Border Services is responsible for overseeing and supporting the daily operations of the cross-border business unit, focusing on flatbed, Conestoga, open deck, heavy haul, and oversized transportation. This role is accountable for ensuring operational efficiency, resource allocation, and maintaining strong customer relationships. The Manager works closely with internal teams and external partners to deliver consistent, high-quality services. This position requires solid industry knowledge, strong team leadership, and problem-solving skills to drive operational success and ensure customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee Cross-Border Business Operations: Hands-on working management of daily operations, including flatbed, Conestoga, open deck, heavy haul, cross-border, and oversized shipments, ensuring alignment with company performance and service goals.
- Team Management & Development: Lead, mentor, and support team members by implementing workforce management strategies to optimize talent and achieve operational goals.
- Operational Efficiency: Implement and monitor continuous improvement initiatives to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and manage scalability.
- Encourage Collaboration: Foster a culture of open communication and collaboration, ensuring team members are motivated and engaged in contributing to operational success.
- Customer Service Excellence: Ensure consistent service delivery to enhance customer experience, resolve issues promptly, and drive service quality improvements.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work with other departments to create cross-functional synergies, streamline workflows, and support integrated logistics solutions.
- Support Sales Growth: Collaborate with the sales team to identify growth opportunities, leverage assets, and ensure service capabilities align with market demands.
- Carrier Relations & Capacity Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers, managing capacity planning and resource allocation to meet growth targets.
- Monitor KPIs & Reporting: Track performance metrics, create reports, and ensure that objectives and deadlines are met.
- Other Duties & Responsibilities: Perform other related tasks as needed to support the operational growth of the cross-border business unit.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments and meet deadlines.
- Problem-solving skills to handle logistical challenges and disruptions.
- Detail-oriented approach to tracking shipments and managing documentation.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers, peers, and carriers.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new conditions, priorities, and challenges in a dynamic work environment.
- Proficiency in data analysis and using KPIs to make informed decisions.
- Thrives in a collaborative team environment but maintains a results-oriented focus.
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business administration or related field or equivalent experience.
- Freight Brokerage Sales and Operations (4+ years).
- Experience in a managerial or leadership role (2+ years).
- Knowledge of cross-border logistics, particularly in Mexico
- Performance management experience
- Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), with McLeod being preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suites (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to sit in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.
- Ongoing computer usage and typing. Specific vision abilities and fine manipulation required.
- Frequent human interactions require listening, expressing, and exchanging ideas verbally and written.
- Cognitive skills needed to complete tasks (e.g., learning, problem-solving, comprehending).
- Regular, predictable attendance.
- Light to moderate noise levels (i.e., business office with computers, phone, printers, light traffic).
- Light lifting up to 20 pounds may be required.
