Purchasing Manager

Gpac is seeking a Purchasing Manager to oversee procurement operations for a client company in Northern Indiana. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the feed or pet food industry and a thorough understanding of packaging materials and suppliers. This role involves managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of quality materials and products.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Procurement Strategy: Develop and implement procurement strategies that align with company objectives and ensure a consistent supply of materials and products.
  • Supplier Management: Identify, evaluate, and establish relationships with suppliers. Negotiate contracts and terms to secure the best possible pricing and quality.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with production and sales teams to forecast needs and ensure optimal stock levels.
  • Cost Management: Analyze market trends and supplier pricing to identify cost-saving opportunities. Implement cost control measures without compromising on quality.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all purchased materials and products meet company quality standards and regulatory requirements. Conduct regular supplier audits and quality checks.
  • Packaging Knowledge: Source and manage packaging materials, ensuring they meet the specific requirements of the feed or pet food products. Stay updated on the latest packaging innovations and regulations.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Maintain accurate procurement records and generate reports on purchasing activities, cost savings, and supplier performance.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, production, quality assurance, and marketing teams to align procurement activities with product development and business goals.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop contingency plans to mitigate them.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies related to procurement and supplier management.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a Purchasing Manager or in a similar role within the feed or pet food industry.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement processes, supplier management, and contract negotiation.
  • Experience with packaging materials and suppliers.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Certification such as Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) is desirable.

Preferred Skills:


  • Experience with sustainable and eco-friendly packaging solutions.
  • Knowledge of global supply chain management and international trade regulations.
  • Experience in feed purchasing.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and inventory management software.
