The inspector is also responsible for working with both residential and commercial contractors and tradespeople to ensure code compliance. This inspector job involves frequent contact with engineers, architects, owners, and others involved in the construction process. They will adhere to the standard schedule 8:00-4:30 Monday through Friday, but a modified schedule for a 6-hour Friday is available.ResponsibilitiesComplete construction inspections for every projectKeep records of all inspections completed with a record of deficiencies foundContact tradespeople concerning questions about inspection resultsSchedule inspectionsResearch codes concerning deficiencies found during inspectionsParticipate in the code update processParticipate in cross training program with other inspectors in the departmentMeet with officials of other municipalities to provide consistency in code interpretationDocument licensing of workers on job site to ensure everyone is licensed by the stateAdhere to the Certification Program and complete the minimum three (3) certifications within two (2) yearsQualificationsHigh school diploma or GED equivalent3 years of related experience and/or training (preferably in commercial and/or residential building construction)Or equivalent combination of education and experience7 to 11 months of management experiencePeople and/or project managementObtain, if applicable upon hire, a Provisional Inspector License from the Occupational Licensing Division of the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board to perform inspections in areas for which candidate is being hiredValid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrierNecessary SkillsAbility to meet the required physical standards for this positionAbility to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug, physical, and audio screeningsBenefitsGenerous benefits package including health, vision, and dental insuranceAccess to a dedicated primary care medical clinic at no cost to employees and covered dependentsGenerous time off, paid holidays, longevity rewards, and retirement benefitsPaid parental leavePotential for bilingual payA tangible impact to the Department of Building & Safety and residents in the City of EdmondA dynamic and inclusive environment where your contributions are valuedAPPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL POSITION IS FILLED.The City of Edmond is an equal opportunity employer.
