Airport Network Engineer at City of Atlanta Posting expires: November 21, 2025 This Network Engineer with wireless expertise is required to design, implement and support the Airports Wireless Network, which includes an outdoor Mesh. Participate in advanced Wi?Fi problem resolution and maintain a reliable, secure, and efficient wireless data communications network. Maintain standard documentation including operations manuals, procedural documents, and network diagrams. The ideal candidate will have a background in managing wireless network equipment, which includes installing, configuring, and maintaining it within a variety of parameters. This professional will also be knowledgeable about industry wired and Wi?Fi standards and best practices. Responsibilities Installing any necessary hardware or software, including those for backups or to monitor system performance Troubleshooting tasks to prevent downtime Providing solutions for upgrade management Developing plans to address consistent wireless network problems Planning for future strategies and initiatives to keep the network operating at high performance Collaborating with vendors and network managers on implementation and deployment Training in?house staff on wireless technologies, if applicable Putting solutions in place to continuously test network performance Testing and modifying equipment as needed Deploying access points appropriately and effectively Conducting site surveys Decision making and procedure selection to accomplish tasks Serve as a technical resource or mentor to other employees; may lead or instruct less experienced workers Give presentations to upper management on upgrades, server improvements and findings Qualifications Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Proven experience in a network engineer role Hands?on experience in networking, routing, switching, and wireless Excellent knowledge of best practices around management, control, and monitoring of Wi?Fi network infrastructures Experience with Cisco wireless LAN controllers, implementation, troubleshooting, and problem resolution Ability to set up and configure network devices such as access points Great at organizing, prioritizing, and multitasking Cisco training and certifications CWNA training and certification a plus Available for evening, overnight hours, weekend work may be required Minimum Qualifications Bachelors degree in computer science or engineering (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis) 2 years of specific professional work experience Preferred Education & Experience Masters degree in computer science or engineering (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the masters degree on an exception basis) with 5-8 years of directly related professional work Certifications Cisco CCNA, CCIE Wireless, CCNP, and ITIL highly desired Candidate must have current drivers license Candidate may be required to lift 40 lbs and stand or walk for long periods of time Candidate must have the ability to work flexible hours including weekends or on?call rotation Non?Technical Skills Ability to manage multiple projects and/or tasks concurrently; self?starter, initiative, minimal supervision Excellent oral and written communications skills; can work alone or within a team environment Effective liaison between assigned business unit and staff members; support after?hour emergencies and scheduled on?call rotation Organization Expectations Work collaboratively with others to achieve team and organizational goals Prioritize projects and tasks; provide constructive input to achieve team goals Deliver customer?focused, responsive services to customers Support efforts to enhance business efficiency and effectiveness; demonstrate a positive attitude Respond constructively to new information, changing conditions and unexpected obstacles Assist in achieving the strategic objectives and goals of the department #J-18808-Ljbffr
