Join to apply for the Deputy General Counsel role at Hawaii Pacific University The Deputy General Counsel, under the Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Board Secretary, provides professional support to the President's senior staff and other stakeholders in legal, regulatory, and policy matters. Compensation $200,000 - $225,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Minimum Qualifications Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school. Active license to practice in the state of Hawaii (or acquire within one year of hire). Minimum six years of experience practicing law in a law firm, government, or corporate setting. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment against time‑sensitive deadlines. Proven organizational skills and record in analyzing complex issues, innovating solutions, exercising excellent judgment, business acumen, and common sense. Desired Qualifications Experience advising a Board of Trustees or Board of Directors on corporate governance matters. Demonstrated success in managing and motivating staff to deliver superior outcomes in a service‑oriented environment. Building professional relationships internally and externally to achieve specific outcomes. Ability to work with highly confidential information with professionalism and discretion. Strong written and oral communication; collaborative with diverse people. Adept at AI tools or willingness to learn to use AI tools in a legal setting. Other Qualifications Legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship not available. Essential position with report‑to work obligations depending on emergencies, campus closures, or evacuation. Must meet training, background check qualifications, and comply with the Protection of Minors policy. Must work independently, multi‑task under time pressure with sensitive issues while working with General Counsel’s staff to meet deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills to interface with all levels of the University cooperatively and harmoniously. Planning for short‑ and long‑term events in a highly organized, accurate, and professional manner. Strong communication and presentation skills. Key Responsibilities Provide legal counsel and advice on a broad range of issues, including regulatory compliance, contracts, intellectual property, employment law, and governance matters. Supervise and manage the Office of University Counsel in the General Counsel’s absence. Develop and implement policy and program initiatives to address legal, regulatory, and strategic objectives. Collaborate with the President’s senior staff and university stakeholders to identify and mitigate legal risks. Oversee legal research, draft and review legal documents, and provide guidance to university units. Represent the university in discussions with external agencies, vendors, and partners on legal matters. #J-18808-Ljbffr
