Role Overview The Associate Director – Automation Engineering is responsible for supervising process control engineers and consultants that support the daily operations of the Biologics facility. The Associate Director also oversees the productivity and development of employees to ensure reliable and compliant control applications and systems are used in manufacturing at Foundry. The role partners with the process control organization and across functional disciplines to support the process control technical agenda, business plan priorities, and compliance objectives. Project Delivery Phase During the project delivery and startup phase (expected 2025–2028), leadership roles will be fluid and dynamic. The Associate Director will support project delivery, build a new organization, develop and implement necessary systems and business processes required to support GMP operations, and build site culture. This requires significant collaboration, creativity and resilience as the site grows to full‑scale GMP manufacturing. Key Objectives/Deliverables Administrative Leadership: Supervise and coach the process control team, including performance reviews and development plans. Staffing: Recruit, resource‑plan and develop succession plans. Process control work coordination. Financial performance: Review and monitor financial targets and commit to meeting them. Develop and implement the Automation Engineering Business Plan. Operational Excellence Commitment to environmental, health, and safety. Identify, track, and report key indicators of functional performance. Ensure team compliance with regulatory requirements. Organizational Capability In coordination with automation and compliance consultants, set and reinforce standards for automation work products. Ensure focus by engineers and completion of critical assignments with appropriate monitoring and reporting. Instill teamwork within the department and demonstrate key interpersonal skills. Ensure appropriate technical depth and rigor with departmental deliverables. Make independent decisions and network as appropriate. Function as a leader and member of management teams. Basic Requirements Minimum B.S. in Engineering and experience in Automation Engineering, preferably in Biologics manufacturing. 10+ years of experience in Biopharma engineering, IT, operations or manufacturing. Additional Preferences Experience in design, development, commissioning and qualification of highly automated greenfield manufacturing sites utilizing SCADA, DCS and MES systems (DeltaV, Rockwell, Syncade, etc). Experience as a member of group leadership in running the plant, including participation in management sub‑teams. Successful application of organizational models through recruiting and retention of employees. Compensation & Benefits Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is $118,500 – $173,800 per year. Full‑time employees are also eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
