Job Summary The Nuclear Medicine Technologist II is responsible for completing a variety of routine to complex nuclear medicine procedures of high difficulty. The position is a member of the direct patient care team and is fully competent in all aspects of nuclear medicine. The Technologist II serves as a mentor to Technologist I and students, works independently with sound judgment, and provides direct assistance to physicians with all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures while delivering exceptional patient care and adhering to radiation standards and guidelines. Essential Functions People Essential Functions Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team‑focused work unit that actively helps one another achieve optimal department results. Collaborates with all members of the patient care team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent patient care information and data in a comprehensive manner. Guides and mentors Nuclear Medicine Technologist I and students to build confidence in skills, knowledge and abilities. Uses peer‑to‑peer accountability towards department goals for retention and employee engagement. Facilitates open, professional (verbal, nonverbal, written) communication to achieve mutual understanding, role modeling by example. Provides clear and professional communication to promote work efforts and problem resolution. Service Essential Functions Performs nuclear medicine procedures and procedure preparation. Proactively assesses, identifies and responds to the needs of the patient for adjustment or intervention to optimize patient care, image quality and patient experience. Provides direct assistance to physicians during diagnostic or therapeutic interventions, including assisting with sterile technique. Provides accurate explanations and instructions to patients and family members at an appropriate level using verbal and non‑verbal skills, terminology and language. Quality/Safety Essential Functions Follows safety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly. Uses ALARA to protect patients, staff and the general public and follows radiation safety standards, sterile and aseptic techniques. Identifies opportunities for corrective action and process improvement, provides recommendations and contributes to meeting department and hospital targets for quality and safety. Ensures all imaging equipment has had quality control performed as required and is in safe working order prior to use. Reports any malfunctions to management and practices preventive maintenance. Assists with implementation and education of department‑based safety initiatives and standards of practice. Finance Essential Functions Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures. Enters charges at the time service is delivered. Uses resources efficiently; manages time effectively and prioritizes daily tasks. Growth/Innovation Essential Functions Actively participates in special projects, department initiatives or shared governance activities and seeks opportunities to expand learning with a focus on continual development. Fosters a positive and constructive teaching environment by engaging students and co‑workers (Nuclear Medicine Technologist I) in learning opportunities aligned with business objectives. Education Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below in the Certifications, Licenses and Registrations section. Work Experience Three years' experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. Licenses And Certifications - Required BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) AND CMRT - Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist - State Licensure AND Must have one of the following: ARRT‑N - Radiologic Technologist - Nuclear Medicine Tech (ARRT) CNMT - Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMTCB) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrates skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing assessments and performance evaluations. Proficient speaking, reading, and writing English necessary to perform essential functions, especially involving patient or employee safety or security. Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members and co‑workers with a customer service focus. Ability to work independently, handle challenging diagnostic procedures, and demonstrate sound judgment and above‑average clinical skills. Basic computer knowledge; operates multiple computer systems including Hospital / Radiology Information Systems and Office software. Strong interpersonal and team‑player skills with all levels of the healthcare team, ensuring excellent customer service to patients, physicians and co‑workers. Adapts to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision, organizing workflow and actively participating in problem‑solving. Supplemental Requirements None specified.
