POSITION SUMMARYThe Executive Director of Finance serves as the Head of Finance for the Hospital, providing strategic financial leadership and stewardship in alignment with BMC’s mission and long-term goals. As a key member of the BMC executive leadership team, the Executive Director is responsible for the financial integrity, sustainability, and performance of the Hospital. This role leads hospital-wide financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analytics, and partners closely with clinical, operational, and administrative leaders to drive value-based care, operational efficiency, and strategic growth. Focus is on partnering with operational and clinical leaders to push operational performance that leverage Finance shared services.Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance, the Executive Director will serve as the primary financial advisor to Hospital leadership, System leadership, and external stakeholders.PositionExecutive Director Finance HospitalDepartmentFinancial Plan & Perf ManScheduleFull TimeESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIESServe as the local Finance executive, overseeing all aspects of financial strategy, planning, forecasting, operations, and reporting.In coordination and collaboration with Finance Shared Services and Corporate FP&A, oversees the implementation and development of the Hospital’s annual operating and capital budgets, long-range financial forecasts, and strategic financial plans.Provide executive-level financial insights to the Hospital CEO, Business Unit VP of Finance, System CFO, and Board, including scenario modeling, risk analysis, and performance benchmarking.Oversee financial performance management, including monthly variance analysis, service line profitability, and productivity metrics.Lead the integration of financial planning with clinical and operational strategies, ensuring alignment with quality, access, and equity goals.In collaboration with Finance Shared Service leaders, leverage optimization financial systems, including workforce productivity, position control, and business intelligence platforms.Champion data governance and financial analytics to support evidence-based decision-making across the organization.Provide financial leadership in labor negotiations, compensation planning, and capital investment prioritization.Ensure compliance with regulatory, audit, and reporting requirements, including external surveys and filings (e.g., CHIA, AAMC, MHA, CMS, etc.).Foster a high-performance finance team culture focused on collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.Represent the Hospital as required in financial matters with external partners, payers, and regulatory agencies.Coordinate significant portion of Hospital’s internal and external surveys and financial and statistical reporting (BOTHFO, AAMC, MHA, CHIA, etc.).Ability and willingness to represent Hospital Finance leadership on various committees and forums as needed.(The above statements in this job description are intended to depict the general nature and level of work assigned to the employee(s) in this job. The above is not intended to represent an exhaustive list of accountable duties and responsibilities required).JOB REQUIREMENTSEDUCATIONBachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field and a minimum of 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience in a complex healthcare provider organization, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership or CFO-equivalent role; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Master’s degree or CPA strongly preferred.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIREDCertified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) – HFMA or Membership in ACHE, PreferredEXPERIENCEDemonstrated expertise in hospital finance, strategic planning, capital management, and healthcare reimbursement.Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, influence senior stakeholders, and drive organizational change.Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and executive-level presentation.Experience with financial systems such as Strata, Infor (Lawson), and enterprise analytics platforms.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLSCore Knowledge AreasHealthcare Finance: Deep understanding of hospital and healthcare provider financial operations, reimbursement models, and regulatory compliance. Emphasis on Academic Medical Center finance which incorporates full scope of tripartite mission (Clinical, Research, Academic / Teaching)Strategic Financial Planning: Expertise in long-range forecasting, capital planning, and scenario modeling.Budgeting & Forecasting: Proficiency in developing and managing complex operating and capital budgets.Financial Reporting & Analysis: Ability to interpret and present financial data to executive leadership and boards.Operational Finance: Knowledge of service line profitability, productivity metrics, and cost containment strategies. Familiarity with research finance managementRegulatory & Compliance: Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, NIH regulations and US GAAP audit complianceLabor Relations: Financial support for union negotiations and compensation planning.Technical SkillsAdvanced Excel & Financial ModelingERP & Financial Systems: Experience with Strata, Infor (Lawson), and business intelligence tools.Presentation Tools: Strong skills in creating executive-level presentations and reports.Written and Oral Communications: Ability to communicate complex concepts and address sensitive situations, resolve conflicts, negotiate, motivate and persuade others.Leadership & ManagementTeam Development: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and build high-performing finance teams.Cross-functional Collaboration: Skilled in working with clinical, operational, and administrative leaders.Team Work: Ability to lead collaborative teams for larger projects or groups both internal and external to the Medical Center and across functional areas.
