$5,000 Hiring Bonus

Primary Purpose of this Position:

Coordinate and direct the work of an assigned group of shop employees in order to meet production schedules and goals.

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Advise Foreman/Manager on manpower, material, equipment and other resources necessary to meet production schedules and requirements.
  2. Plan and coordinate the work of assigned shop personnel.
  3. Train and assist personnel in the fabrication/processing/loading of structural and miscellaneous steel.
  4. Carry out the job functions required of an "Equipment Technician", "Fitting Technician", "Welding Technician", or "Warehouse Technician (whichever appropriate to given fabrication shop area) not limited to the functions listed on this job description. Below are additional responsibilities.
    1. Equipment Technician-
      1. Efficiently setup, operate, and troubleshoot structural and plate processing equipment
      2. Perform normal maintenance, upkeep, and recordkeeping on all structural and plate processing equipment
    2. Fitting Technician-
      1. Lay out, fit, weld, and/or fabricate plate, misc. steel, according to shop drawings, symbols, etc
      2. Plan sequence of assemblies
    3. Welding Technician-
      1. Weld, and/or fabricate plate, misc. steel, according to shop drawings, symbols, etc
      2. Efficiently setup, operate, adjust, and troubleshoot welding equipment
    4. Warehouse Technician-
      1. Fill customers' orders
      2. Receive, unload, and/or locate fabricated or warehouse materials in inventory, shops, or staging areas
      3. Advise appropriate personnel of customer order problems, inventory stock outs, supplier discrepancies, shortages, damaged materials, and/or other problems.
  1. Carry out the job functions of the Foreman/Manager when the Foreman/Manager is absent or unavailable.
  2. Identify shop drawing/cutting list/load list/inventory errors and discrepancies before or during early stages of fabrication.
  3. Verbally enforce work and safety rules; report violations to the Foreman/Manager immediately.
  4. Provide verbal feedback to Foreman/Manager regarding job performance of assigned personnel.
  5. Make recommendations for improvements in methods or equipment.
  6. Other duties as directed by the Foreman/Manager.

  2. Production Lead
  3. Assigned shop employees
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities Required:

All of the knowledge, skills and abilities required of a "Fitting Technician", "Welding Technician", "Equipment Technician" or "Warehouse Technician"(whichever appropriate to given fabrication shop area), plus:
  1. Ability to understand and carry out complicated verbal and written instructions
  2. Ability to maximize cooperation and teamwork among assigned employees and with other departments.
  3. Ability to plan and coordinate the work of a group of assigned employees in order to maximize efficiency and meet appropriate goals and deadlines.
  4. Ability to perform extensive decision making and independent judgment regarding the sequence of operations and actions to be taken within the guidelines of a particular job or alternative methods to be used to complete a job.
  5. Ability to work under limited supervision that focuses only on clarification or interpretation of procedures or job schedules.
  6. Possess thorough understanding of all shop processes within a given shop or area.
  7. As a Fabrication Lead possess thorough understanding of the fabrication requirements shown on shop drawings including complex fabricated assemblies.
  8. As a Processing Lead possess thorough understanding of the processing requirements shown on shop drawings.
  9. As a Paint/Loading Lead possess thorough understanding of blast/paint requirements on a given job along with the ability to work closely with the Shipping department to properly load for shipment to the customer.
  10. Demonstrate good leadership, communication and training skills required to effectively manage a group of shop employees.
Physical Demands:
  1. Stand FREQUENTLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
  2. Walk OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY over the course of the 8 to 12 hour work shift. The distances walked will range from a distance of a few feet to 60 feet.
  3. Sit only during the break and lunch periods. Rarely one will be able to sit while running machine.
  4. Lift weights up to 20 pounds from floor to chest CONTINUOUSLY, which includes the various tools utilized in the process of performing the usual work duties.
  5. Lift weights up to 35 pounds FREQUENTLY from floor to head level during the 8 to 12 hour work shift.
  6. Lift weights up to 50 pounds OCCASIONALLY from floor to head level during the 8 to 12 hour work shift. Jib cranes and overhead cranes are available for the employee's assistance with lifting.
  7. Lift weights up to 70 pounds OCCASIONALLY from knee to waist level during the 8 to 12 hour work shift. Jib cranes and overhead cranes are available for the employee's assistance with lifting.
  8. Lift weights up to 85 pounds OCCASIONALLY from floor to waist level during the 8 to 12 hour work shift. Jib cranes and overhead cranes are available for the employee's assistance with lifting.
  9. Carry weights noted above distances ranging from a few feet to 60 feet.
  10. Climb OCCASIONALLY onto or over the conveyors, into the scrap pit, onto trailers, and on stacks of beams ranging up to 10 feet while performing job duties.
  11. Stoop or crouch OCCASIONALLY while performing the regular job duties. The position will be held continuously for a few seconds to 15 minutes, depending upon the job.
  12. Kneel in the commission of job duties on an OCCASIONALLY, depending upon the job.
  13. Crawl OCCASIONALLY up to 10 feet to access tools, materials, etc.
  14. Reach forward OCCASIONALLY to CONTINUOUSLY, depending on job, to perform job duties or to retrieve tools. The employee will OCCASIONALLY be required to reach to full forward extension.
  15. Reach overhead OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY, depending on job, to guide material attached to the cranes and to attach the chains from the crane to the material.
  16. Push and pull drawers open OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY to retrieve tools. Employee will OCCASIONALLY push material attached to a jib crane or overhead crane to properly guide into place. Force varies up to 35 pounds.
  17. Pull material OCCASIONALLY at waist height.
  18. Pull hand over hand OCCASIONALLY to FREQUENTLY to pull chain through material. Force varies up to 70 pounds- Warehouse-Loader position only.
  19. Gross finger dexterity skills required to operate the various tools and equipment utilized in the course of standard job duties. Fine finger dexterity is not required.
Non-Material Handling Demands
  1. Employee is expected to work 40 hours a week. However, hours including overtime and weekends may be required based on Drake-Williams Steel's needs.
  2. Hear sufficiently to be aware of safety issues.
  3. Visual ability to read and interpret cut lists and shop drawings. Safety glasses are required in the shop area.
  4. Exposure to heat, cold, wet and humid conditions in the shop area OCCASIONALLY.
  5. Exposure to fumes, odors and dusts in the shop area OCCASIONALLY.
  6. Exposure to solvents, greases, oils, and coolants OCCASIONALLY.
  7. Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment. PPE includes steel-toe safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, and hard hats.
Tools Required:

Pencil, Square, Tape Measure, Markers, Ball Peen Hammer, Wire Brushes, 4" Grinder, SledgeHammer, Grab Hooks, Vise Grips, Allen Wrenches, Pry-Bar, C-Clamps, Slings and Chains.

Machines Utilized:

Computer, Cranes, Forklifts and all pertinent equipment in your assigned area.

Experience and Education Required:
  1. High School degree or equivalent.
  2. Minimum of 5 years working in steel fabrication including a minimum of one year working in a Fitting Technician, Welding Technician or Equipment Technician position at DWS.
