Teaches and mentors staff and effectively embodies and expresses the firm’s values and mission.ResponsibilitiesActs as a primary client relationship for respective project, building and strengthening connections through a comprehensive understanding of their project mission, goals, policies, needs and progressManages the execution and delivery of implementation documents through all phases of a project, including post-occupancy evaluation and sharing/harvesting lessons learned and project impact, in collaboration with Design Director, Project Architect or Job CaptainCollaborates on the design process including programming client needs, conceptual and schematic design, design development, document preparation, construction administration and furnishings selections and purchasesCoordinates project team interaction both internally and all other project participantsOversees application of products and materials appropriate for the projectUtilizes creative thinking to achieve innovative solutionsIntegrates HKS expertise and innovation in all projects, while actively seeking opportunities to incorporate HKS best practices, sustainable design solutions, subject matter expertise and resources strategically and efficiently for the client, user and communityManages respective project team in collaboration with other disciplines (such as consultants) to establish design solutions that can be technically implemented within the constraints of the project goals, budgets, available time and within local ordinances and codesExercises skills of persuasion and negotiation on critical issues through the scope of the projectMay coordinate client presentations and public hearings as neededAssists in monitoring project to anticipate potential risks and collaborates with the PIC, legal team and client to resolve issuesHolds project team responsible for detailed code and zoning analysis, performance analysis and deliverables on HKS standards, best practices and quality expectationsCollaborates in project meeting management, including scheduling, determining meeting purpose, preparing agendas and meeting report and maintaining action items log on regular basisAttends on-site visits and field reviews as necessaryAssists in managing existing design technology and continually explores, improves on and evaluates best uses for technology for all interior design servicesQualificationsEducation and ExperienceAccredited professional degree in Interior Design, Architecture, related field or equivalent experienceTypically 8+ years of experienceLicenses and CertificationsNCIDQ certification or architectural license strongly preferredSustainable design accreditation preferredKnowledge, Skills And AbilitiesAdvanced – expert-level experience, knowledge or skillsIntermediate – experience, knowledge or skills required to produce high-quality solutions or workBasic – familiar with primary concepts or capabilities and can perform elementary functionsAdvanced experience and skills in Bluebeam requiredIntermediate experience in Revit preferredIntermediate experience in Photoshop, InDesign and virtual reality, such as VR headsets and Yulio requiredBasic knowledge of Rhino, Grasshopper, Dynamo, Illustrator and AI Design tools required; basic knowledge of Navisworks preferredBasic knowledge of Twinmotion, Enscape or other visualization tools requiredBasic knowledge of furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E) specifications software requiredBasic knowledge in the functionality of Vision requiredIntermediate experience in MS Office Suite preferred; advanced experience in Excel preferredIntermediate knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines requiredIntermediate knowledge of building codes and ability to research and incorporate into technical documents requiredIntermediate experience with FF&E to carry out design intent requiredBasic experience in logistics management including connecting people and resources to the right place at the right time requiredIntermediate ability to manage team with diplomatic leadership style which puts value on relationships and collaboration, both internal and external, requiredIntermediate ability to maintain existing client relationships and build new client relationships requiredIntermediate presentation skills requiredIntermediate organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time requiredIntermediate ability to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing preferredIntermediate ability to problem solve and apply innovative solutions requiredIntermediate ability to collaborate and encourage collaboration in a team environment requiredAdvanced ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality requiredTravel may be requiredBase Salary Range: $94k - 127k annually – applies to Washington D.C. locations onlyThe estimate displayed represents the general base salary range of candidates hired at the Washington D.C. locations only. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range based on the location of the role.
