2 days ago Be among the first 25 applicants Description The Chief Electrical Inspector role involves technical and supervisory work involving the review of plans, inspecting, and testing electrical installations, equipment, and appliances for adherence to specifications and codes. The employee directs the work activities of other inspectors in the enforcement of electrical codes. Work is reviewed by a superior through oral and written reports and is subject to review in the field through re-inspections. Distinguishing Characteristics Of The Class Under general direction is responsible for supervising and performing inspections of a wide variety of electrical installations and alterations for compliance with the National Electric Code and Florida Building code. Position performs responsible technical enforcement work in the inspection of new and existing electrical installations and systems to determine and secure compliance with applicable codes. Work involves technical examinations and the application of standard trade practices to inspection work. Inspections are conducted independently but in accordance with Building Department regulations and established technical standards. Positions analyzes current and proposed plans and specifications for the purpose of ensuring compliance. Supervision is received from the Building Official. Work is performed under the general direction of the Development Services Department Director. Essential Job Functions Supervises, conducts training for subordinates, and performs inspections of new and existing wiring and electrical installations for conformance with requirements of the electrical code; Checks plans and workmanship to see that the electrical work complies with codes and specifications; Recommends methods for the correction of inadequacies; Determines the ability of wiring installations to safely supply electrical energy necessary for heavy duty heating or power installations; Assists electrical inspectors in solving difficult field inspection problems and in the examination and interpretation of electrical diagrams and plans; Performs a variety of special inspections and field investigations involving the enforcement of electrical codes; Prepares reports of activities and field inspections; performs building, plumbing, or mechanical inspections as required; Conducts plan reviews of structures and electrical systems for compliance with codes and specifications; Generates review comments that are legible and understandable; Performs related work as required. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent, with certification as a Chief Electrical Inspector or Electrical Plans Examiner by the Miami-Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board, supplemented by minimum eight (8) years of electrical work experience, four (4) years of experience in responsible supervisory work. Three (3) of experience as an inspector, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that supplies the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Additional Requirements Must possess Standard Certifications in accordance with Chapter 468, Florida Statutes, as a Commercial or Residential Electrical Inspector, and Electrical Plans Examiner. Skills Knowledge of code and ability to interpret codes and specifications accurately and uniformly; Knowledge of the methods and practices involved in the electrical trade; Knowledge of standard testing and devices used in the electrical trade; Knowledge of the possible defects and faults in electrical wiring and appliances; Knowledge of effective corrective measures; Ability to read and interpret construction and electrical diagrams, plans, and blueprints; Ability to recognize deviations from plans in the construction and installation process; Ability to supervise; Ability to enforce code regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, employees, and the general public.
