Key Responsibilities:
Data Entry and Management: Accurately enter prescription orders, patient information, and medication details into the pharmacy’s computer system.
Update and maintain patient records, including demographic information, medication history, and prescription status.
Verify the accuracy of entered data and resolve discrepancies as needed.
Record Keeping: Ensure that all records are complete, accurate, and in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Manage and file paper documents as needed, including prescription forms and patient profiles.
Data Integrity and Confidentiality: Maintain the confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations and pharmacy policies.
Implement data verification procedures to ensure data integrity and prevent errors.
Customer Service and Patient Care: Answer phone calls courteously and professionally.
Provide information to patients regarding prescription status and medication instructions under the supervision of a pharmacist.
Assist patients with ordering refills and filling new prescriptions and create fill requests in the appropriate systems.
Direct patients to the pharmacist for medication counseling when necessary.
Compliance and Safety: Adhere to pharmacy laws and regulations regarding controlled substances and pharmacy operations.
Handle sensitive information with care and adhere to all applicable laws and regulations, including HIPAA.
Assist with conducting pharmacy drug inventories and record accurate counts.
Reports To: Operations Manager, supervised by Lead Pharmacy Technicians
Skills and Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an Ohio Board of Pharmacy approved pharmacy technician training program.
Licensure: Registration with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy as either a Registered Technician or as a Certified Technician
Certification: PTCB certification preferred
Experience: Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or in a related healthcare role is beneficial.
Core competencies include: Knowledge and application of relevant local, state, and federal laws and regulations
Pharmacy terminology and sig codes
Understand the importance of active listening, appropriate conversation, and relaying of information among patients, families, and colleagues.
Basic math skills for performing standard pharmacy calculations.
Familiarity with pharmacy computer systems and electronic health records (EHR).
Physical Requirements (with or without accommodations):
Ability to read and interpret hand-written and faxed materials
Manual dexterity for keyboarding and data entry tasks.
Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
