Job Description

The Recycling Coordinator manages the metal, glass, plastic, electronics, and other miscellaneous recycling throughout campus. This position also coordinates the sale of approved items (i.e. direct purchases or donations) via the University EBay account.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employment duties will include, but not be limited to the following:
  • Coordinate and supervise work study students assigned to the Recycling Program
  • Maintain timesheets, work schedules, and meeting Federal grant guidelines as communicated by the Campus Work Study Coordinator
  • Service containers during special events; empty & remove recycling product as needed for events
  • Remove all recyclable materials campus-wide on a continual basis throughout the week and service as needed
  • Provide recognition for the Work Study students throughout the year when merited
  • Maintain staff, faculty, and student awareness of campus sustainability as it relates to recycling opportunities through programs, posters, etc.
  • Keep weekly, quarterly, and annual records of tonnage reports and income received
  • Work with the Manager to provide new and replacement recycling containers and other recycling-related expenses; research styles and prices and purchase additional containers as needed; contact various vendors on a regular basis to ensure the University receives the best price for the recyclables
  • Work with Manager to promote special campus recycling awareness projects such as Recyclemania, America Recycles Day, and participation in the annual Christmas parade
  • Perform other site and position specific duties as assigned
Required Skills
  • Knowledge of what plastics are recyclable and ability to distinguish between metals
  • Ability to operate forklift and bailing machine
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of constituents including faculty, staff, students, and vendors
  • Skill in the operation of hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment used in Recycling Program
  • Knowledge of occupational safety rules and practices
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical work in adverse environment conditions
  • Skill in the operation of light motor vehicles
  • Basic computer and internet skills sufficient to participate in state and national recycling programs as well as communicate with faculty, staff, and students
  • Basic filing and math skills to keep accurate reports, records, and student time sheets
  • Proficiency in safe operation of golf cart with trailer to transport recyclables and students
  • Support the University's Mission and Values in their role
Required Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University's auto insurance carrier.
