**Job Description & Responsibilities**

To support our continuing growth CoolSys Energy Design is in search of an experienced Fire Protection & Plumbing Designer to join our team. Under supervision, Designers take on project assignments from project conception to Construction Document issuance including engineering calculations and plan drafting. We work with a variety of high-quality regional and nationwide supermarket and retailers as well as office, mixed-use, and high-rise multi-family buildings, so attention to detail and quality of work is a must, Our ideal candidate will be able to design commercial building fire sprinkler and plumbing systems while maintaining positive relationships with clients and vendors.

In this role, the Fire Protection & Plumbing Designer will:

* Prepare and create detailed designs of fire suppression, fire protection, and plumbing systems.

* Perform engineering load calculations, system selections, and other design calculations.

* Create and maintain AutoCAD and Revit drawing packages.

* Maintain responsible control over all design activities pertaining to the project, including engineering, quality control, and code compliance.

* Ensure work is executed accurately and in a timely and cost-effective manner.

* Ensure preparation of the designs calculations and engineering drawings is constructible and comply with code and customer requirements.

* Prepare engineering documents that meet customer quality requirements and company standards.

* Coordinate with local building officials regarding code compliance.

* Assist on site surveys, site inspections, and reporting as required.

* Incorporate selection, layout, sizing, and applicable system and equipment requirements with direction from management when required.

* Provide support for other department activities as required including plotting drawings, producing transmittals, and coordinating shipment of deliverables, if necessary.

* Be assigned projects that are commensurate with training, proficiency, and experience.

**Required Qualifications**

* A minimum of 5+ years of experience within the MEP industry related to fire sprinkler and/or fire suppression design.

* Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering is preferred. Other engineering disciplines, education, or certifications are considered based on experience and skill-set.

* AutoCAD and Revit/BIM 360 design experience.

* Perform hydraulic calculations and work with outside resources to incorporate special hazard systems.

* Design and specify fire suppression systems including wet-pipe, dry-pipe, pre-action, deluge, fire pumps, and storage tanks on a wide variety of project types.

* Working knowledge of building codes and NFPA Standards.

* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities as well as demonstrated high quality technical writing skills and proficiency in English.

* Team player with sound business ethics and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

* Ability to read plumbing and fire protection drawings well. Generate and review engineering deliverables in a timely manner.

* Project Management experience a plus.

* Willingness to work with all levels of internal staff, as well as outside clients and vendors, in order to develop a full understanding of building systems and their operation.

*This position will require minimal travel to project sites. Our ideal candidate will reside local to the San Antonio, Texas region and be able to primarily work in the office, but we will also consider candidates to work in our Princeton, New Jersey or Fullerton, California offices.
