A Brief Overview

Critical Care nursing is the specialty that manages human responses to actual or potential life-threatening problems. Nurses in the critical care setting provide direct care for patients who require complex assessments and interventions. The critical care nurse leads and participates in a collaborative interprofessional team to create safe, respectful, healing and caring environments with a goal of ensuring optimal outcomes.

Critical care nurses are required to refine their assessment skills while blending in data obtained from a variety of invasive and noninvasive monitoring technologies to care for acutely and/or chronically ill or injured patients.

Education Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree Bachelors of Science: Nursing (BSN) Preferred

* Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medication administration and equipment calibration. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

* Registered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted. Required
* Basic Life Support - BLS Must have within 90 days of hire.
* RQI, CPR or ACLS certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department.

* Promotes a mutually respectful environment that encourages the exchange of ideas, supports the effectiveness of professional relationships, and integrates ethics in all aspects of practice.
* Demonstrates advocacy in all roles and settings.
