Job Purpose

The ReStore Donation Supervisor’s responsibility is to supervise the warehouse (processing) area and to provide support to the ReStore management team, by engaging in a wide variety of tasks in the ReStore, including supervising the warehouse (processing area), basic fleet management, driver support and safety. This position must be able to pass a DOT physical and is required to drive donation trucks (19-26 ft) to pick up donated goods from donors homes and or corporate donors.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Management:

  • Ensures adherence to administrative policies and procedures
  • Recognizes that Restore is often one's first impression of Habitat for Humanity and ensures Habitat’s reputation and helps maintain a clean, well merchandised, and orderly environment.
  • Supports the store manager by supervising the donation intake area (warehouse/processing area) including the cleaning and pricing of merchandise, restocking the sales floor and overseeing donor customer service.
  • Providing daily oversight of donations staff and volunteers and ensuring that all departments are adequately covered.
  • Provides quality customer service and handles grievances professionally.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and accident procedures.
  • Identify and communicate solutions to issues that may arise relating to operational success, efficiency, or safety.
  • Communicate job expectations and coach employees
  • Ability to operate forklift, hand truck, pallet jack and other warehouse equipment
  • Participate in the implementation of short- and long-term strategies, goals and objectives
  • Work with Logistics Manager to regular maintenance and emergency repairs as needed
  • Ensure all fleet members have proper licensures and up to date training
  • Assists with driver monitoring and adherence to schedules, routing and proper driving practices.
  • Assists the logistics manager with ensure compliance with DOT regulations
  • Works with the logistics manager to train new drivers
  • Regularly checks and inspects truck binder to ensure driver compliance and proper documentation and record retention.

Donations:

  • Drive ReStore box trucks (16-26 ft. long) in a safe and courteous manner and in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines.
  • Complete routes in an efficient manner, provide outstanding donation pickup service at every stop
  • Maintain cleanliness of trucks interior and exterior (cab/daily; exterior/weekly)
  • Regular maintenance checks to ensure readiness of truck and equipment at all times including reporting any maintenance concerns to supervisor
  • Daily trucks safety checks to ensure the truck is safe to be on the road.
  • Maintain regular communication with Logistics Manager
  • Load/unload donations in a safe and efficient manner
  • Professional and courteous interaction with donors including utmost care and concern for personal property
  • Utilize good judgement when screening and/or turning down donations of poor quality or that may pose a risk to the safety of the donations team.
  • Proactively address and seek resolution to any problem, challenge or concern encountered in the course of your work
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimal supervision, follow directions and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Drivers must:
    1. possess a valid driver’s license
    2. be at least 18 years of age (Drivers 18-21 must have clean driving record AND 1 year of driving experience) and
    3. have at least 3 years’ experience driving specialized vehicles and a favorable driving record,
    4. have the ability to pass a drug test and DOT physical exam.

Operations

  • Create outstanding customer, donor and volunteer experiences by providing excellent customer service and creating connections through thoughtful communications.
  • Assist with daily in-store operations such as using the point of sale system, cash register, assisting customers, answering questions, handling material, basic housekeeping and cleaning of facilities and incoming donations when appropriate etc.
  • Assist in the coordination of merchandise set-ups, has knowledge of visual standards and techniques, and has the ability to implement and maintain the store as set forth by store management.
  • Proactively address and seek resolution to any problem, challenge or concern encountered in the course of your work
  • Maintain an awareness of all promotions and advertisements.
  • Maintaining safe, clean and adequate work environment.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimal supervision, follow directions and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Enjoy customer interaction and connecting people to the mission, vision values of Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake.
  • Graciously accept drop off donations from customers and assist with loading/unloading customer donations and purchases.
  • Assist our driver ambassadors by picking up donated merchandise from our donors, safely packing donations on our ReStore trucks, and carefully delivering and processing donations at one of our ReStore locations.
  • Adheres to all safety regulations, attends required staff and company-wide meetings & trainings and regularly check and responds to email and other work communications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Safety

  • As a management team member support enforcement safe work practices by all Habitat team member, volunteers, subcontractors and workers at all our locations and events to ensure we meet, if not exceed, OSHA and Habitat safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all team members are aware of and operate by the safety policies and procedures for retail environment and transportation activities that look out for the welfare of our customers and donors.
  • Exercise outlined protocol by immediately notifying and collaborating with management on any safety related incident and/or respond to a report involving Habitat or any other related team members (workers, volunteers, and subcontractors).
  • If within area of purview initiate and / or provide assistance for the proper investigation regarding safety incidents by following Habitat Safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications/Licenses/Certificates and Other Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • High School diploma or GED and at least 1 year of retail and/or business related experience and at least 1 year DOT driving experience are required.
  • Ability to work and travel to various store locations in Anne Arundel, Howard and Baltimore County and City, required.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Ability to lead, train, and manage staff and volunteers in a positive manner.
  • Knowledge of sales, marketing, merchandising, and construction materials.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills are required including basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, POS operating systems and email, etc.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and unexpected shifts in priorities.
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs frequently
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background, driving record check, DOT physical and drug screening test, are required.

Working Conditions

This job primarily serves in the retails stores and may from time to time work in the administrative offices /professional office environment and/or visit a construction site. The role routinely uses retail environment equipment as well as laptop/desktop computers, photocopiers and smart phones. Travel to stores and periodically to construction sites and/or donor locations and vendor locations. The position may require travel to be outside in various weather conditions including extreme cold, extreme heat, rain, snow sleet etc.
