Introduction SymphonyAI is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate General Counsel to take on a strategic leadership role within our legal team, leading commercial transactions across the Americas, providing critical legal guidance to our US-led product and engineering teams, and ensuring privacy compliance. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including senior executives, sales teams, product and engineering organizations, and various departments, to support SymphonyAI's commercial objectives while safeguarding its legal interests. This role requires a seasoned legal professional who can balance legal expertise with a deep understanding of our business goals. Job Description What you will do: Negotiate and manage a broad range of commercial agreements, including sales, vendor, licensing, partnership, and data processing contracts across the Americas Lead efforts to ensure compliance with data privacy and protection laws, including GDPR, CCPA, and any other applicable regulations across the Americas. Conduct privacy impact assessments and audits to identify and mitigate data privacy risks. Develop and maintain privacy policies, procedures, and compliance documentation. Advise on data breach incident response and notification requirements. Stay abreast of evolving privacy regulations and industry best practices to keep the organization informed and prepared. Ensure compliance with global and regional data privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), and stay ahead of regulatory changes impacting the organization. Provide proactive legal support to sales, go-to-market, product, and engineering teams on business initiatives, product launches, and strategic partnerships. Streamline and improve legal processes, policies, templates, and playbooks to drive efficiency and scale; identify opportunities for effective legal outsourcing. Oversee dispute resolution, litigation, and management of external counsel and legal service providers. Lead, mentor, and develop legal team members in North America and Australia/New Zealand, building a collaborative, high-performing team. Stay informed about changes in laws and regulations, industry trends, best practices, and emerging legal issues that may impact the organization. Deliver legal training and foster awareness of best practices throughout the organization. Manage external legal counsel and service providers as needed. What you will bring to SymphonyAI: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and current bar admission. Minimum of 15+ years of relevant experience as a commercial, privacy and product counsel, preferably in both a corporate environment and a law firm. Deep practical knowledge of, and experience with, software and SaaS contracting, contract law, intellectual property, and data privacy regulations (especially the GDPR and CCPA). CIPP-US or equivalent strongly preferred. Proven experience in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements with a keen attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risks and provide practical solutions. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts effectively. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, across different business units and at all levels of the organization. Experience driving successful legal operations improvement projects to completion. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Sound business judgment and the ability to balance legal considerations with commercial objectives. High ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
