Senior Civil Engineer

Overview The Civil Engineer will provide design and plan production for general civil design on a wide variety of projects which may include site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and associated civil engineering activities. Will perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection, and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures. Join our team of problem solvers. Essential Functions Perform engineering calculations in support of civil engineering design projects Manage projects including client communications, public input and feedback, and internal support Perform AutoCAD Civil 3D design/drafting in support of civil engineering design projects Performs, trains, and provides guidance for site investigations, survey work, CAD work, and data collection Prepares, provides training, provides guidance, and reviews engineering designs and reports which includes design calculations and plan preparation Performs, provides training for, and guides quality assurance, ensuring projects get carried out as designed and recommend modifications as needed Ability to identify engineering and surveying services needed by the client and the ability to draft proposals and estimate fees Coordinate with government agencies, client staff, and other professionals to obtain design information and approvals Write and edit construction specifications and engineering reports Tabulate bid items and calculate construction bid quantities from plans and specifications. Estimate construction costs Conduct periodic visits to construction sites to monitor quality and progress of the work Knowledge of financing and funding including public and private sources Required Skills & Behaviors Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in all work tasks Ability to plan, schedule work and complete work assignments within established budgets and timelines Strong written and verbal communication skills Capable of working with a multidisciplinary team of planners, engineers, surveyors, architects, and technicians Broad computer knowledge in particular Microsoft Office products Aptitude and demonstrated hands‑on experience with computer applications such as AutoCAD Civil 3D Mentoring capability Broad knowledgebase of civil engineering projects rather than a subject matter expert in any one civil engineering area Organizational Relationships Reports to the Manager of Site Services May have responsibility for multiple direct reports Required Education/Experience Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field PE licensure in Michigan 10+ years of experience managing site development and land transformation 10+ years of experience in A/E/C industry with record of client retention/attraction Preferred Education/Experience 5+ years of experience in developing business 5+ years of experience managing direct reports PE licensure in Indiana Travel Local travel as required Benefits Medical, dental, and vision coverage with eligibility upon hire date Multiple Medical plans including those with HSA employer contributions. 100% Employer paid Short‑Term Disability and Long‑Term Disability Reimbursement and support for tuition, continuing education, and personal/professional development.
