Warehouse Automation Engineer (remote)Ryder System, Inc. is seeking a Warehouse Automation Engineer to identify, evaluate, pilot, and deploy new warehouse automation technologies. The role involves collaboration with internal operations, solution design, continuous improvement, IT, product teams, and external partners to implement technology solutions that drive efficiencies and competitive advantage.ResponsibilitiesStrong background in systems engineering, including server setup, network configuration, and connectivity troubleshooting.Proficiency in SQL Server administration and query optimization.Experience managing services and processes running on enterprise software platforms.Knowledge of data lake architecture, data ingestion, and secure data access.Ability to extract, transform, and load data from multiple sources into analytics platforms.Understanding of server‑to‑server integrations, APIs, and authentication mechanisms.Strong troubleshooting skills for system‑level issues across network, database, and application layers.Essential FunctionsRFP and New Business Support: Lead minor RFP projects and support lead engineer on major RFP projects, build ROI and justification, and develop presentation collateral.SOW (Scope of Work) Contractual Validation: Identify gaps in vendor FSD/SOW and review design options for clearance issues, power requirements, cost efficiency, and SLA targets.Automation Procurement: Build collateral for vendor tech review requests and requests for quotes; review design options across vendors.Implementation Project Management: Manage smaller projects, update punch list and project plan, track implementation milestones, and attend status calls.Implementation Support: Verify on‑site support, coordinate communication with vendors and onsite staff, handle escalation events, and support post‑go‑live hypercare.Data Analytics: Profile data from dashboards and systems to support optimization projects and perform data analysis on key reports.Strategy and Success Measurements: Review team strategy, set personal goals, validate spend, and track project budgets.Automation Troubleshooting: Partner with vendors to resolve priority tickets related to automation performance and participate in P1/P1 resolution calls.Additional ResponsibilitiesSupport vendor communication for minor projects.Develop pilot activities, define proofs of concept, obtain approvals, evaluate vendors, and deploy pilots to assess business fit.Validate new technology and automation through POC implementations, coordinate value‑justification with senior management.Perform other duties as assigned.Skills and AbilitiesDriven to innovate with new warehouse automation capabilities.Strong planning, time management, collaboration, decision making, organization, and presentation skills.Comfort with ambiguity and uncertainty.Ability to create and maintain professional relationships across all levels.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Passion for understanding clients’ vision and business goals.Ability to champion ambiguous scenarios and challenges.Natural sense of leadership and ownership in research, pilot, and thought leadership activities.Problem‑solver, curious, hands‑on mentality.Acts as a change agent in adopting new technologies and coaches business owners.Demonstrated success in assessing, developing, and deploying new offerings or incremental enhancements.QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field (Required).Master’s Degree in the same field (Preferred).3+ years in warehouse automation, material handling technologies, industrial engineering or warehouse systems integration (Preferred).2+ years in warehouse automation (Preferred).Experience with sortation conveyor, goods‑to‑person, autonomous vehicles/robots, ASRS’s (Required).Automation, management consulting, physical & process robotics experience (Beginner, Required).Knowledge of warehouse management operations, data analytics, industrial engineering, and lean methods (Beginner, Required).Knowledge of material handling equipment and automation types (Intermediate, Required).Experience with warehouse design tools such as CAD, slotting, MOST, simulation, WMS, labor management, and data visualization (Beginner, Required).Experience in financial business case analysis to support ROI (Intermediate, Preferred).Travel: 30–40%Job Category: EngineeringCompensation: $100,000 – $110,000 per year, salaried.
