STAFF LEVEL ENVIRONMENTAL GEOLOGISTS, SCIENTISTS, & ENGINEERS (TORRANCE, CA)
Genesis Engineering & Redevelopment, Inc. (GE&R) is an environmental consulting firm that provides a broad range of environmental services that include initial site evaluation and human health risk assessments, site investigation, remediation, and regulatory case closure, litigation support, and expert witness services. We have an immediate opening in our Torrance, California office for a Staff Level professional, specifically geologists, environmental scientists, and engineers with 0-3 years of experience. This is an on-site position with approximately 40% of time spent in the office and 60% of time spent at our client’s facilities performing various types of data collection.

We are a small and growing company with an employee and family focus. Because of our size, even entry level staff have open access to senior management. The company is designed to provide strong scientific services to our clients, with several Ph.D.s on staff. Our size also means that employees won’t be pigeonholed as all staff must fill a variety of roles in the company.
Preferred qualifications for our Staff level position include:
1. B.S. or M.S. in Geology/Hydrogeology, Environmental Sciences, and Civil, or Environmental Engineering
2. Experience with soil and groundwater investigation and remediation projects
3. Field experience, including drilling and sampling
4. Excellent writing and oral communication skills
5. Computer skills including MS Word and Excel
6. Professional work and scientific ethics
7. Ability to travel overnight periodically to project sites
8. Ability to work well in a team as well as independently
9. Talented, creative, reliable, and motivated
Each Staff member is assigned as the lead on several projects and is the primary person responsible for field data collection, data analysis and interpretation, and preparing first drafts of reports and other project documents.
Responsibilities of this position include:
1. Preparing work plans to investigate the type and distribution of contaminants in the subsurface.
2. Performing lithologic logging of boreholes to determine the distribution of geologic materials in the subsurface.
3. Collecting soil, soil vapor, indoor air, and groundwater samples to determine contaminant concentrations and trends through time.
4. Creating geologic cross sections to visualize the geologic units to understand how they were deposited.
5. Preparing contour maps of the water table elevation and determining horizontal and vertical hydraulic gradients to understand and quantify the movement of water through the subsurface.
6. Preparing 2D and 3D contour maps of the contaminant concentrations in soil, soil vapor, and groundwater to understand the fate and transport of contaminants.
7. Evaluating the subsurface geochemical conditions to understand the chemical reactions that control the movement of contaminants.
8. Preparing technical reports that present interpretations of the data collected and provide recommendations for additional investigation or remediation of contaminants.
9. Developing conceptual models of the physical and chemical processes that control the movement of contaminants to design strategies to immobilize or destroy the contaminants.
10. Assessing the pathways in which humans are exposed to contaminants to evaluate exposure risk.
