Grade Foreman

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise all crew members, including a minimum of two direct employees, and subcontracted employees affiliated with the respected segment.

Oversee daily assignments of crews, including scheduling, assignments, attendance, etc.

Monitor work progress or crew, and certify team hours for payroll.

Delegate tasks and accountabilities, and instruct, lead, supervise and direct crew.

Directly involved with the orientation, training, coaching, performance management and employment decisions related to the crew members (e.g. promotions, transfers, separations, etc.)

Guarantee all safety precautions and quality standards are met.

Supervise the crews use of machinery and equipment, and ensure adequate resources are available.

Assist the Superintendent in preparing reports pertaining to work progress and safety.

Report on time and materials.

Basic computer skills required.

Experience with Microsoft Office products desired.

Monitor the implementation of safety orientations, safety indoctrination, and provide coaching for improvement.

Implement plans to meet project schedule and budget. Foreman will be responsible for setting up cuts and fills, planning haul routes and maintaining haul roads, and working with inspectors to ensure fills meet project specifications.

Rough and fine grade areas as required to meet project specifications.

Record and track production quantities.

Any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Management Team.

Work Requirements:

Experienced on all types of heavy equipment for dirt and site projects.

Knowledgeable in dirt work, including excavation, grade work, surveying, and final excavating work. Experience needed with Bulk Dirt Grading, Excavation, and Large Excavation/Fine Grading.

Experience running machines and training others on how to run machines.

Read, understand, and interpret drawings and specifications.

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Must pass drug screen.

A valid drivers license.

Strongly prefer candidates with a High School Diploma.

Minimum of 3 years experience in a construction supervisory role preferred.

Five plus years of previous heavy civil construction experience.

Experience with grade checking to meet project plans and specifications utilizing a variety of methods including GPS, rotating laser, stakes, and cut sheets.

Fundamental knowledge of GPS equipment as it applies to grading.

Thorough knowledge and working experience of DOT standards and regulations.

Able to communicate effectively with workers and subcontractors.

Able to work overtime and be flexible with hours (day/night).

Must be able to communicate with others to convey information effectively.

Must be accustomed to working outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions.

Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs, and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.

Foremen may be required to operate equipment or perform ground work as required to meet productivity goals.

Must demonstrate attention to detail.

Must be knowledgeable of safety procedures and practices.

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
