Job Description Medical Laboratory Technician/Clinical Laboratory Technician (MLT/CLT) Overview Certified Medical Laboratory Technicians/Clinical Laboratory Technicians (MLT/CLT) will provide diagnostic testing services to The Central Texas Veterans Healthcare System in Temple, Texas. Specific Requirements Technician must have an Associate's in Applied Science Degree (2 years). Technician must have minimum of two (2) years of laboratory experience. Technician must be certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician/Clinical Laboratory Technician by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT). Compensation $27.72 per hour plus an additional $4.57 per hour for Health & Welfare. Responsibilities Expected to use independent technical judgment to analyze and interpret laboratory results. Will perform, evaluate, interpret, correlate, and validate the accuracy of laboratory procedures and results. Requires broad exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with minimal technical supervision. Will be required to monitor quality control systems and measures. Requires ability to interpret and apply complex written instructions. Must utilize basic knowledge of laboratory equipment and be able to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation. May need to resolve problems encountered in the laboratory. Must be able to communicate, consult, and interact with other members of the healthcare team, external relations, customer service, and patient education. Duties Include But Are Not Limited To Perform broad range of laboratory procedures, including advanced and complex procedures. Must recognize deviation from expected results and use scientific principles to analyze and correct problems. Evaluate and solve problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis accounting for physiologic processes and requirements. Maintain and document optimal functioning of laboratory equipment. Use, calibrate, identify malfunctions; repair and perform preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment. Troubleshoot issues with laboratory instruments and resolve problems. Diagnose deviations in test performance due to instrument malfunction. Perform and document quality control and quality assurance activities and corrective actions related to test performance using statistical principles and theories of performance improvement. Identify discrepancies, solve problems, and present solutions. Answer inquiries regarding test results, methodology, test specificity, test sensitivity, and specific factors that influence test results. Interpret results and suggest follow-up test selection or procedures. Must meet all acceptable quality and productivity standards as defined by Chief, P&LMS or designee. Other duties as assigned.
