Essential Functions (Principal Duties and Job Responsibilities) Responsible for the clinical and therapeutic operations of the Addiction Programs, for the application, implementation, and adherence of regulatory guidelines set by Meharry, state, and federal policies. Adhere to the guidelines as stated in the Meharry Medical College Policy and Procedure Manual. Organizes the functions of the Addiction Programs through appropriate departmentalization and the delegation of duties. Supervises managers and the Nursing Supervisor regarding administrative, medical, and programmatic responsibilities. Collaborates with the Leadership team to develop operating reports and budgets for programs; manages departmental budgets and allocates resources effectively; and oversees the collection and preparation of operating reports, including state reports and various contract and data submissions. Work with the leadership team on Addiction Program operating reports, including terminations, new hires, transfers, expenditure reports, and statistical performance data records. Interview job applicants and make final recommendations to the Executive Director on personnel actions, including employment, promotion, retention, recognition, and salary increases for exceptional performance. Conduct regular performance reviews and address any clinical issues as warranted. Participates in or represents community, state, regional, and national mental health activities, serving as a liaison among governing and advisory authorities. This includes securing funding for operations through grants, contracts, and other means. Functions as a liaison and negotiates personal contracts with various state entities, requiring discussions, interpretation, and other matters related to Center operations and services. Supervise, educate, and guide clinical staff, including nurses, mental health techs, therapists, and case managers, by utilizing evidence-based practices surrounding addictions and substance abuse. Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and nursing staff to coordinate, assess, and manage the medical and nursing aspects of addictions and substance abuse. Coordinate patient care services to ensure quality and safety by leading continuous improvement initiatives within the clinical department, analyzing clinical data, identifying patterns, and implementing necessary changes to enhance patient outcomes. Assumes the role of patient advocate, demonstrating respect for each patient's dignity and privacy; interacts courteously and friendly. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Comprehensive understanding of evidence-based clinical practice, treatment modalities, and regulatory guidelines surrounding substance abuse treatment and care. Effective leadership skills to lead, motivate, and inspire the team, manage conflict effectively, and make informed decisions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all stakeholders, providing honest, diplomatic, and unbiased feedback tactfully, respectfully, and courteously. On-call and responsible for responding to emergencies for the program 24/7. Develop and maintain standard reporting requirements and assigned operations, analyze data, identify patterns, and implement data-driven improvements. Manage multiple priorities, adhere to deadlines, and analyze workflows to ensure efficiencies. Education and Experience Education Required: Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing. Experience Required: At least three (3) years of senior supervisory experience. Education and Experience Preferred Master's degree preferred or advanced nursing degree; strong applicant with a bachelor’s degree in nursing and at least five (5) years of experience within inpatient care settings for mental health, substance abuse, intensive care unit, or med-surg may be considered. Licensure, Certification or Registration Must have a valid Tennessee Driver's license and vehicle to facilitate local travel between the Elam Center and business-related agencies.
