ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP
Reports and accounts to the Director of Student Services.
POSITION FUNCTION
Provides psychological services and administrative leadership for assigned district building(s) in addition to diagnostic assessment, interpretation, coordination, and administration of IEP team process.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide individual diagnosis for special and regular education upon referral, including gathering intake data, testing, observations, reporting and interpreting test data, making recommendations, evaluating placement options and helping in the formulation of behavioral objectives and educational management plans.
2. Coordinate IEP team process, including obtaining parent permission and records, assigning staff, scheduling and coordinating meetings, compiling reports and maintaining records.
3. Provide consultation and support to classroom teachers by assisting in the development of short and long-term strategies to help alleviate school difficulties of students and by assisting in the resolution of professional interpersonal problems and concerns. This is carried out through the student services team and with individual teachers.
4. Assist in planning appropriate developmental and remedial activities and approaches based on placements in special education programs.
5. Assist in carrying out the student s planned program, working toward specified objectives.
6. Provide service to classroom teachers through behavioral feedback, cooperative planning, and provision of special materials and demonstration of different techniques in group dynamics.
7. Provide consultation with parents on a short and long-term basis as determined by the IEP team, with community groups as an advocate/educator, and with the district as consultant on social, behavioral, emotional, cognitive or curricular issues of district students.
8. Serve as emergency crisis manager for serious cases as assigned.
9. Serve as a liaison between the school district and outside agencies.
10. Assist in the development of community programs for the staff, parents and persons in the community.
11. Provide psycho-educational therapy through the development and implementation of individual and group counseling sessions as needed or directed.
12. Provide assigned in-service to district staff on topics pertinent to school psychology in the schools.
13. Keep abreast of current research, innovations and trends in the areas of school psychology and provides pertinent information to the Superintendent of Schools, School Board and other district personnel.
14. Assist with screening programs as needed or directed.
15. Coordinate student assistance program as assigned.
16. Conduct screening for gifted and talented program.
17. Facilitate district compliance with state and federal guidelines.
18. Provide leadership in program development, advocacy, inservice, long-range planning, etc. in specially assigned areas, such as AODA/student assistance program, emotionally disturbed, early childhood, learning disabilities, cognitive disabilities, etc.
19. Supervises building level special education personnel in collaboration with the building principal.
20. Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Student Services.
