With offices across North Carolina, the Surgery Scheduler is an integral part of the healthcare team. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the followingSchedules/reschedules pre-operative and post-operative appointments and surgeries with physician for new and established patients using current physician protocolsObtains insurance authorizations for patients needing MRI.Prioritizes patient need based on collected information obtained through patient interviewKnowledge of authorization requirements based upon status for the surgery and CPT codesCoordinate and post-surgery with outside facilities, to include equipment neededOnce surgery is confirmed, posts surgery in all necessary systemsMay need to obtain medical clearances, cardiac clearances, etc. according to patient's co-morbidity according to established protocolsInstructs/directs patients in a timely manner according to established policies and protocols related to specific surgeries and acts as ongoing resource for patient and staff questionsKeeps an open line of professional communication with physician team regarding patient needsMaintains a pleasant and cooperative demeanor while performing all dutiesEnsures documentation in medical record accurately reflects communication and patient's plan of carePerforms patient education when appropriate including oral and written education relevant to the patients' surgeryMake changes in provider schedules as directed by physician or managementRequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalentClinical certification preferredExperience in a clinical type setting is requiredBasic knowledge of medical terminology and anatomyKnowledge of lab/diagnostic tests and associated paperworkWorking knowledge of managed care basics, and experience working with a Medicare populationComfortable using and interacting with internet applications and other computer programsKnowledge of practice management and word processing softwareExcellent communication skills in person, written correspondence, and over the phoneExcellent documentation skills within an EMR systemAt least one year of experience in a physician office, hospital, or equivalent setting requiredHigh school diploma or equivalentClinical certification preferredExperience in a clinical type setting is requiredBasic knowledge of medical terminology and anatomyKnowledge of lab/diagnostic tests and associated paperworkWorking knowledge of managed care basics, and experience working with a Medicare populationComfortable using and interacting with internet applications and other computer programsKnowledge of practice management and word processing softwareExcellent communication skills in person, written correspondence, and over the phoneExcellent documentation skills within an EMR systemAt least one year of experience in a physician office, hospital, or equivalent setting required
