About the role The Bilingual PRN Hospice Aide is a paraprofessional member of the interdisciplinary group who works under the supervision of a registered nurse and performs various services for patients as necessary to meet personal needs and promote comfort. The aide observes patients, reports observations, and documents care performed. The role requires speaking both English and Spanish. Job Responsibilities Perform personal care needs after assignment and attend to requests promptly. Provide patient and family with positive communication techniques, maintaining confidentiality. Meet safety needs of the patient and use equipment safely (foot stools, side rails, O₂, etc.). Give personal care including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, and changing bed linens. Assist in dressing and undressing patients. Plan and prepare nutritious meals, including grocery shopping. Assist in feeding the patient. Take and record temperatures, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure as ordered. Observe and care for patient’s skin to prevent breakdown. Assess and report on patient’s condition and significant changes to the Case Manager. Assist in ambulation and exercise as instructed. Provide range‑of‑motion and transfers/positioning as directed. Assist with self‑administered medications within state regulations. Offer and assist with bedpans and urinals; assist with light laundry. Perform range‑of‑motion and other simple procedures as part of extensional therapy. Provide respite for patient/family/caregiver when on‑site. Keep patient’s living area clean and orderly. Adhere to documentation, care procedures, and professional conduct standards. Participate in quality assessment, performance improvement teams, and activities. Respect patient and family environment and personal needs. The above summary is representative; incumbents may perform additional duties as requested. Job Qualifications Active STNA or C‑NA certification in the state where duties are performed. Meet state training requirements. Completed a minimum of 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training (16‑hour classroom before 16‑hour practical). At least 18 years of age. Ability to read, follow written instructions, and document care. Understanding of hospice philosophy and comfort providing specialized care to the terminally ill. Satisfactory references from previous employers. Self‑directing with ability to work with little supervision; calm demeanor in patient homes. Empathy for the ill, injured, frail, and impaired. Current CPR certification. Tact, patience, and good personal hygiene. Licensed driver with insured automobile in good working order. Successful completion of a probationary period as documented by supervisor. Bilingual (English/Spanish) required. Physical Demands Requires frequent sitting or standing and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations available.
