Location: Marshall, MN - Southwest MinnesotaJob DescriptionProvide design-engineering services to market and manufacture transformer products, specifically in the pulse and power transformer line and other electronic areas. Engineer must communicate with customers to define their needs and offer suggestions to the complete design of a magnetic component. Engineer must provide accurate information to allow others to quote a project with a complete Bill of Materials and provide a source for the materials used. Engineer must accurately document all aspects of the design while following the ISO process and BHE work instructions.Essential Job FunctionsResponsible for providing engineering for the design of new transformer, inductor or magnetic assembly products.Complete design of magnetic components including enclosuresSelect materials for best function and economySecure sample materialsAssist Lab and Technicians in building prototype coils and transformersCoordinate with customer or Sales Rep any problems with existing design or new design approachesFully document mechanical and electrical parametersResponsible for providing engineering support to marketing and salesAssist in developing manufacturing costs of new productsProvide technical assistance to marketing with preparing quotationsProvide sales assistance to marketing through direct contact with customers and marketing representatives as requested by managementQualify prototypes to customer requirementsRecommend new designs to achieve lower cost methods and proceduresProvide interface between company and customer engineering departments as requested by managementMaintain an expert image with customer and customer engineeringResponsible for providing engineering support to manufacturingOriginate and release complete documentation drawings for manufacture of transformer productsDevelop quality standards and testing requirements of new productsSelect and define materials used in manufactureSelect and qualify vendorsRecommend solutions to manufacturing problemsAssist manufacturing with product start upAssist in creating technical growth in other engineering personnelProvide technical leadership and establish standards of performance by example and instructionRecommend task responsibilities that will create growth in engineering personnelOther duties as assignedPhysical Elements RequiredAbility to stand, sit, walk and carry itemsAbility to driveAbility to mix chemicals (epoxy)Ability to lift 30 poundsAbility to see and handle fine wire itemsAbility to operate MS Products – AccessRegular and timely attendance is requiredMental Elements RequiredAbility to organize, plan, interpret data, make decisions, problem solveAbility to write and prepare documentsMinimal amount of supervisionAbility to work safely at all timesAbility to handle workplace stress (i.e. deadline pressures, working with public, etc.)Must follow all policies of BH ElectronicsEquipment UsedFrequently: telephone, copier, computer, hi-pot, solder iron, impedance bridge, oscilloscope, network analyzer, multi-meter; Occasionally: fax machine, drill, winding machine, scanner, shear, hand winding; Rarely: LPKF RouterJob Qualifications & CharacteristicsEducation: BSEE or equivalent experience in electronic designExperience: Minimum of 4 years technical experience including operation of test instruments such as oscilloscopes, impedance bridges, network analyzers, building prototypes and prototype test fixturing.Minimum of 4 years of experience with design of magnetic componentsStrong background in analog designUnderstanding of general flow of communication between customer, marketing, engineering and production, including number systems and engineering documentationPersonal: Must be reliable and diligentAbility to perform competently to meet schedulesAbility to communicate well and attention to detail are very importantThis position is subject to the ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and/or the EAR (Export Administration Regulations).
