OverviewJoin to apply for the Staff Software Engineer role at Precision Neuroscience. Location: on-site at least 3 days a week at our offices (Santa Clara, Chicago, Indianapolis or New York). Compensation: $200,000 - $210,000 / year.Department: Precision • Location: ChicagoResponsibilitiesSoftware Architecture and Development: Design, implement, and verify cross-platform, scalable applications that are safe, effective, and secure. Create robust architectures that can handle real-time neural data processing while meeting strict safety and regulatory requirements. Deliver solutions that balance technical excellence with pragmatic timelines and budgets.Cross-functional Leadership: Collaborate in agile settings with diverse teams including Product, Firmware, and Machine Learning. Drive technical discussions, mentor junior engineers, and help establish engineering best practices. Present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Quality and Documentation: Lead technical design reviews and conduct thorough code reviews to ensure high quality standards. Create comprehensive technical documentation including architecture specifications, API documentation, and user guides. Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks.Project Management and Communication: Report regularly to the broader team on project progress, identifying risks early and proposing mitigation strategies. Drive technical decision-making while clearly communicating trade-offs and recommendations. Contribute to regulatory documentation and submissions.Innovation and Research: Thrive in an environment where you'll be breaking new ground in BCI development. Create novel solutions that span multiple disciplines, from real-time neural signal processing to advanced machine learning implementations. Stay at the forefront of rapidly evolving fields including computational neuroscience, digital signal processing, embedded systems, and ML.Team Collaboration: Participate in regular in-person team meetings and potentially travel to clinical sites to better understand user needs and system performance. Build strong relationships with team members across all disciplines.Skills, Knowledge and ExpertiseRequired:Motivated by and committed to Precision’s mission to restore communication and independence for people with neurological conditionsBachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field6+ years' experience in software engineering roles, with emphasis on complex system developmentStrong programming expertise in C++ and Python, with demonstrated ability to write efficient, maintainable codeExperience with near real-time software systems and performance optimizationExcellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environmentStrong communication and collaboration, especially when dealing with complexity or ambiguity, both within Software and cross-functionallyAbility and desire to learn and effectively apply new technologiesPreferred:Low-level software development experience (drivers, WiFi/Bluetooth communications, HID interfaces, embedded systems)Digital signal processing expertise, especially related to biological signalsExperience with regulated medical software development (IEC 62304, FDA requirements) including related documentationStrong background in multithreaded programming and concurrent systemsStrong background working with machine learning teamsStrong background working with hardware teamsProgramming experience in RustExperience with ML libraries like PyTorch, TensorFlowBackground in neuroscience or brain-computer interfacesMobile development experience, particularly in medical or healthcare applicationsWeb services and API design expertiseDatabase design and development skillsDiversity and inclusion: Diverse workforces create the best culture, company, and products.
