About Our JobThe Denver Public Library (DPL) is a growing urban library system that serves the City & County of Denver. DPL sees more than 4 million visitors every year across its 27 locations, serves Denver's most vulnerable communities through outreach and mobile services, hosts thousands of programs a year and manages a collection of more than 1.4 million physical and digital materials. DPL is committed to serving the evolving needs of Denverites through inspired programming, diverse collections, culturally-representative spaces and equitable policies & procedures.DPL is looking for a Lead Custodian (trainer) to perform lead work and provide training for our custodial team. This position will, under the direction of the Custodial Services Supervisor, provide training for new and existing custodial employees in department standards and requirements, assuring library facilities and grounds are maintained in a clean, orderly, safe and secure condition utilizing proper methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment. This position will also perform and supervise routine manual work involving janitorial and landscaping duties at library buildings. This position supports our values by creating a welcoming environment for all and building connections with both customers and coworkers. This position will work at multiple branch locations on a range of projects, depending on the needs of the day. Our ideal candidate has:Knowledge of cleaning materials and equipment.Ability to perform routine and repetitive manual tasks for extended periods.Ability to perform moderately heavy manual tasks requiring the full range of body movements.Ability to train, motivate and supervise custodial staff.Ability to create and maintain positive staff relationships.Ability to follow simple written or oral instructions.Ability to work in an environment with people from all backgrounds and age groups.Ability to multi-task and prioritize.Ability to use basic workplace technology including email and internet.Ability to pass a physical examination and a background check after the offer to hire has been made.We realize your time is valuable so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required minimum qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent.One year of experience as a custodian.A driver's license, with a clean driving record.A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.Other things to know:This position may be based at the Central Library, which only has pay to park options, but regular employees are eligible for a $10 a month ECO Pass.This opening will remain posted until filled.
