Product Design Director, Travel Verticals at Capital One We’re currently seeking a Product Design Director to lead our Travel Verticals team, part of the Experience Design organization. The Premium Design team sets the standard for Capital One’s high‑spender customer experience ecosystem, revolving around highly useful, personalized, and high‑stakes products. Since its launch in 2021, Capital One Travel has experienced rapid growth and aims to become one of the largest OTAs. This role will drive the user experience across existing travel funnels (Flights, Stays, etc.), expand the funnel, and create offerings such as Business Travel and Luxury travel experiences. Role Expectations As a Director of Travel Verticals, you’ll lead a cross‑disciplinary team of designers and collaborate closely with research, product, and technology leadership. You’ll be responsible for high‑impact projects and defining & driving design strategy that informs the organization’s vision and aligns with business objectives. Key Competencies Product Design Expertise: Lead and elevate the design practice across interaction, visual, and service design; oversee tools, platforms, and design systems to produce vision stories, journey maps, blueprints, high‑fidelity designs, and prototypes. Leadership: Create an inclusive, collaborative culture that values and listens to all team members. Human‑Centered: Champion customer and partner voices so that business and customer outcomes are aligned. Business‑Focused: Use deep knowledge of products, competitors, and market trends to shape design solutions that solve business challenges. Problem‑Solving: Provide insights on technical advances and data capabilities to enable bold solutions while acknowledging limitations. Collaboration: Connect across teams, portfolios, and lines of business to deliver coherent experiences of higher value. Communication: Present work strategically, integrating design, data, and research insights to influence senior stakeholders. Basic Qualifications At least 8 years of experience in a product design role. At least 3 years of experience leading design teams. Preferred Qualifications At least 10 years of experience in product design. At least 5 years of experience leading design teams. Experience across product design, service design, design strategy, and content design. Experience managing interdisciplinary teams from strategy through to market. Experience partnering with product managers, engineers, marketing, and analytics to shape strategy, OKRs, and roadmaps. Experience working within a design system. Proficiency in web & mobile technologies and navigating technical constraints to inform product decisions. Expertise with prototyping tools such as Figma. Proficiency in business case development, grounding product decisions in business value. Exceptional written, verbal, communication, interpersonal, and relationship‑building skills. Exceptional people‑management and development skills. Additional Information At this time, Capital One will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position. Minimum and maximum full‑time annual salaries vary by location: McLean, VA – $226,000 to $257,900; New York, NY – $246,500 to $281,300. Salary is based on the location of work and will be reflected in the candidate’s offer letter. This role is eligible for performance‑based incentive compensation, including cash bonuses and long‑term incentives.
