General Summary
Supervises and coordinates the work of a crew of workers within a specific craft or trade. Their main concern is ensuring that employees under their management do their jobs skillfully and efficiently while making sure assigned work is progressing in a timely manner.
Essential Job Accountabilities
- Coordinating daily tasks according to priorities and plans, making changes when necessary due to weather, supply, delivery and personnel
- Delegating individual responsibilities and projects to crew members and contractors
- Recruiting, hiring, training, managing and mentoring employees and contractors
- Providing adequate resources and staffing to meet project schedules, laws, regulations, best practices and safety needs
- Emphasizing safe use of tools, machinery and equipment while providing training on safety gear, helmets and procedures
- Developing and managing project budgets and quality standards for all sites
- Resolving conflicts or miscommunications quickly and amicably
- Regularly reporting project status to supervisors, site engineers and other officials
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience
- Appropriate training and experience required
- Customer-service skills to communicate with inspectors and administration to develop a positive working relationship.
- Decision-making skills for selecting personnel and subcontractors for specific tasks and jobs to meet deadlines and budgets.
- Leadership skills for effectively delegating tasks to workers.
- Speaking skills for providing clear orders, explaining complex information to clients and construction workers and discussing technical details
- Technical skills for interpreting construction methods and technologies along with contracts and technical drawings.
- Time-management skills to meet deadlines and ensuring construction phases are completed on time so that the next phase can start.
- Writing skills for writing budgets, proposals and plans along with documenting work progress for clients and others involved.
- Work easily and skillfully with hands
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolds
- See well (naturally or with correction) and distinguish colors
- Reach for, handle, and grasp wires and hand tools
- Bend, crouch, and work in small places
- Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
