OverviewMartha’s Vineyard Hospital (MVH), a member of Mass General Brigham (MGB), is a nonprofit health care organization serving the island of Martha’s Vineyard. The mission is to safeguard the health of island residents and visitors by providing and arranging high-quality, accessible medical care for all, regardless of ability to pay.MVH is a 25-bed critical access hospital offering more than 40 clinical services, a robust perioperative department, a cancer center affiliated with Mass General Hospital, and an infusion center for dialysis treatment. MVH employs a year-round staff of about 750 full- and part-time employees, expanding to nearly 900 during peak summer season. The hospital provides 24-hour emergency care and a broad range of medical and surgical services, with access to advanced specialty care through its affiliation with MGB.The President and Chief Operating Officer (PCOO) is a leadership role reporting to the MGB Community Division President and SVP of Operations, responsible for all aspects of inpatient and outpatient hospital operations, budgeting and operating performance, patient and community relations, capital planning, and additional responsibilities as assigned. The PCOO partners with the MVH Board of Trustees to deliver high-quality, safe patient care, build community relationships, and engage in philanthropic efforts in support of the hospital’s mission.Role SummaryThe PCOO is an exceptional leader who will guide MVH’s efforts to focus on health and wellness, access to critical care, and disease management while fostering an inclusive, welcoming environment for staff, patients, and visitors. The ideal candidate will have a robust operations background, a strong understanding of community-based care, and an innovative mindset. The PCOO leads people and develops talent, supporting the career advancement of employees at all levels of the hospital.The role requires collaboration with local and system leaders, community health partners, and other hospitals to advance performance, compliance, and strategic objectives within the Mass General Brigham framework.ResponsibilitiesOversee inpatient and outpatient operations, including interdisciplinary initiatives with nursing, clinical support services, hospital-based faculty, and clinical/operational programs.Collaborate with local and system leaders to develop performance goals aligned with MGB strategy; monitor metrics to ensure goals are met.Ensure safe, high-quality, efficient, and effective delivery of services.Direct the development and implementation of process improvement initiatives to improve patient safety and quality across the continuum of care.Ensure compliance with TJC, OSHA, DPH, and state and federal regulations; partner with Compliance for audits as needed.Recruit, retain, develop, and provide managerial/administrative oversight of staff; foster a diverse, inclusive environment with high morale and job satisfaction.Facilitate resolution of conflicts among stakeholder groups; model professionalism and dedication to patients.Serve as liaison between the hospital and the local community; engage with community health leaders to advance the MVH mission.Collaborate with leadership at other hospitals on board relations, community relations, medical affairs, and philanthropy.Maintain healthy, collaborative relationships among faculty, nurses, and staff.Oversee nursing and operational leadership to provide safe, high-quality care and efficient use of assets.Lead Enterprise Asset Management to align with system performance goals and improve access and throughput (e.g., length-of-stay, discharge times, testing/consultation turnaround).Drive process improvements to reduce costs and improve revenue; monitor volume trends, capacity, supplies, and contracts for cost containment.QualificationsEducation and CertificationsMaster’s degree in health care administration or related discipline, MD, or DNP strongly desiredKnowledge and Work Experience10+ years administrative/management experience required, preferably in a community environmentSupervisory experience requiredLeadership Skills and CompetenciesPerformance Focused: Customer/Patient Focus; Manage Complexity; Cultivate Innovation; Ensure Accountability; Learning AgilityPeople Focused: Drive Equity and Inclusion; Build Effective Teams; Collaborate; Communicate EffectivelyAdditional Job DetailsRemote Type: OnsiteWork Location: One Hospital RoadScheduled Weekly Hours: 40Employee Type: RegularWork Shift: Day (United States of America)EEO StatementMass General Brigham Incorporated is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
