Summary:

Incumbent oversees the maintenance and repair program for the Indiana Toll Road in their respective area. Responsible for ensuring ITRCC’s safety programs and culture remains strong.

The supervisor is also responsible for establishing priorities on work orders, utilizing available personnel and material.

Relationships:
  • Directly reports to the Roadway Manager.
  • Works collectively with various ITR departments, managers and vendors.

Responsibilities:
  • Performs all tasks safely, complies with all internal and external safety requirements, supports ITRCC safety culture, attends all safety trainings and completes all compliance trainings, surveys, and self-evaluations as required by ITRCC
  • Uphold ITRCC’s core values: Customer Service, Respect, Excellence, Stewardship and Teamwork (CREST).
  • Upholds all company policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal laws.
  • Maintain a strong safety culture through employee engagement, review of job hazard analysis documents, and conveying to management safety items for consideration.
  • Maintain budget compliance by reviewing any needed spends with management, and by limiting overtime hours for critical situations, seeking prior approval when appropriate.
  • Drafts short-range (two weeks) plans to conform to material and allocated man-hours remaining. Priorities established with alternatives due to weather conditions.
  • Decides the most efficient utilization of personnel and equipment for each task. Takes into consideration manpower capabilities.
  • Assigns work to crews, making sure the needed material and equipment is available.
  • Explains methods, policies & procedures, scheduling, and equipment available. Also explains purpose of job and long and short range programs that may affect the work.
  • Efficient methods of work are discussed and encouraged. Assures best use of time and correct use of tools and equipment.
  • Inspects work being performed for methods and procedures as well as meeting acceptable standards. Inspects work upon completion for appearance and end result. Inspects roadway and bridges for deterioration and failure of its components.
  • Provides on-the-job training and special training sessions concerning correct maintenance methods, management, safety, and first aid, etc.
  • Interacts with VueWorks for data storage regarding work accomplishments and other asset details.
  • In conjunction with HR and management, hold staff conferences with subordinates to be sure applicable policies, rules, and regulations are understood and to determine problems or disciplinary action being considered or recommended. Counsels subordinates on good work habits.
  • Assist Manager with annual job evaluation of subordinates and discuss findings with the employee. Recommendations or suggestions are noted concerning improvements and/or commendable activities.
  • Work in a collaborative environment while respecting coworkers and supervision.
  • Must comply with on-call status.
  • Availability to plan and respond to inclement weather situations.
  • Make recommendations for promotions or dismissals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Must possess acceptable written and oral communication skills.
  • The ability to motivate subordinates is a must.
  • Must be able to prioritize work assignments based on operational needs of the maintenance area and the Company as a whole.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.


Desirable Experience:

  • 2-3 years of experience in the highway maintenance field with an emphasis placed on past supervision of highway operations.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Working Conditions:

  • This position requires: (Frequent est. 5 hrs per shift)
      • Frequent Standing, Walking and Sitting.
      • Frequent Talking and Hearing.
      • Medium Physical Effort.
      • Heavy Computer usage.
      • Local travel time required may be up to 75%.
