The Department of Health Studies and Applied Educational Psychology includes programs in School Psychology, Special Education, Health Promotion and Education, and Nutrition. The department prepares researchers and practitioners who apply a social-ecological lens to the study of the social determinants of well-being and evidence-based practices to improve learning, social-emotional, and health outcomes of students and their families.
The School Psychology Ph.D. and Ed.M. programs utilize a scientist-practitioner model that places a high value on applied research and evidence-based clinical skill acquisition. Our Ph.D. graduates work in leadership roles in a range of research and clinical settings that serve culturally and linguistically diverse children and youth. Our Ed.M. graduates work as school psychologists or enter doctoral programs in applied psychology. Clinical training occurs in an interdisciplinary campus clinic, the Dean Hope Center for Educational and Psychological Services, as well as through practica in partnership schools and externship sites in the NYC metropolitan area. Many Ed.M. students also obtain behavior analyst credentials through a special ABA track in the program.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Coordinating student externship and internship experiences, directing program admissions, leading APA accreditation efforts, monitoring student progress, and working with administrative offices to support students.
Teach / supervise school / clinic-based practice and seminars for masters and doctoral students.
Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusion and multicultural competence and will contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community.
The typical teaching load is 2 : 3; with a course release for program directing, the teaching load would be 2 : 2.
Minimum Qualifications :
Doctoral degree from an APA-accredited school psychology program
Licensed (or licensed-eligible) as a psychologist in New York
Successful experience working in applied school and clinical contexts
Demonstrated track record of strong clinical supervision, advising, and teaching
Leadership experience such as within training programs (particularly around accreditation) or school psychology organizations or associations
Experience supporting the training of school psychologists for work in high-needs schools serving culturally and linguistically diverse students.
