Position Overview:

The Director of Intellectual Property will be responsible for managing and developing our intellectual property strategy, with a focus on patent writing and prosecution. This role involves close collaboration with our R&D, engineering, and legal teams to identify patentable inventions, draft and file patent applications, and ensure robust protection of our technological advancements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive intellectual property strategy aligned with company goals.
  • Work closely with inventors and technical teams to identify patentable inventions.
  • Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications in the US and internationally.
  • Manage relationships with external patent counsel and oversee the quality of their work.
  • Conduct patentability searches, freedom-to-operate analyses, and competitive IP assessments.
  • Monitor and manage the company's IP portfolio, including patent renewals and maintenance.
  • Educate and train internal teams on intellectual property matters and best practices.
  • Provide strategic guidance on IP-related issues to senior management and other stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, etc.).
  • Proven experience in patent drafting and prosecution, preferably within a corporate or law firm environment.
  • Registered Patent Agent or Patent Attorney with the USPTO (preferred but not required).
  • Strong understanding of US and international patent laws and procedures.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
